How good can my PC do on HL2?

When viewing the hl2-barricade.exe (gotten here http://www.planethalflife.com/half-life2/videos/) my computer became exceedingly choppy. Is this how it will perform as the actual game?

Specs:

512MB Ram
AMD Duron 1.3GHz (gags)
Radeon 9600 pro
Windows 98 hell yeah

You should be... OK on Low settings.

Overall, I have a worst computer than you (except I have a 1.4 ghz cpu)... It runs O.K. on low settings. It's playable.

Does the fps on the .exe demo reflect what real gameplay would be like?

No, it is prerendered so it does not reflect computer performance.

Well, that was just a high quality Bink video, it wasnt actually redering the game on your computer. So no, it doesn't refelect actuall FPS.

You should be able to run it somewhat decently on low settings. But the fact that you experienced chopiness in the video isn't a good sign.

Out of curiosity, how would/should my computer run HL2 [i already played the game], and what would be the main bottlenecks in terms of performance?

AMD athlon xp 2400+ [2.0GHz]
512mb ram
radeon 9800 pro 128mb
(windows xp pro)

all my hdds are heavily fragmented.. what would be the main bottleneck?

It should run well. You have no real bottleneck; either a CPU/Mobo or a GPU upgrade would make a noticable difference.

I have a 9800pro and a 2800 (2.2) and it runs very well.

A defrag might be a good idea

I did some benchmark testing with 3 programs. Here are the results.

With PerformanceTest I got a final score of 138.1.

With Final Reality I got a 3.96 on 3D tests and 3.61 on Bus Transfer Rate.

With Gun Metal Benchmark I got an average fps of 5.31. (ouch)

Also i'm looking into a new cpu for my k7s5a motherboard (socket A interface) but i'm clueless on what to get. Was looking at an AMD Athlon 2800+. Thanks
