How in the raped bloody hell do you get the console open? -Console is not enough

Yeah, I have set launch options to -console. Yes the console shows up at the start of the game. But the instant I click with my mouse anywhere outside of the console window, it dissappears to never be seen again. And I'm not american so that means that there is no ~ button on my keyboard. The way I type the ~ symbol is by holding Alt gr + a key to the right of the letter P.
That does not open the ****ing console. So how in the hell do I keep the console open when in left 4 dead??????? I have seen no answers anywhere on the internet to this.

Usually you just enable it in keyboard/mouse options, then use the standard ` key to open it.

Options > Keyboard > (Advanced options?) > Enable developer console

Then it should be the button above Tab and to the left of 1 regardless of what's written on the key.

No, no no no no!! Enable developers thingy doesn't work at all. No mater how hard I stab the stupid button I don't get console.

When you get the console when you first start type this into it

bind <key> toggleconsole

Then pressing that key should work like the tilda key does for us with US style keyboards.

Do this, bind it to like...F4 and you can open / close it as you please.

Now THAT is exactly the answer I wanted. How in the hell you could manually bind the console command, I just couldn't figure out which command it was. Thank you, it worked. I ound console to the ' button, but funny story, when I press the button ? it opens, not by pressing '. Doesn't matter though, ? is just as nice.

I should've known such wisdom could only come from the HYPNOTOAD!
