How is the Radeon 9600 TX going to compare to....

It's still kind of early, but does can anyone speculate how the 9600 TX will compare to a lot of the other ATi cards that are out right now? Right now I'm stuck with a GeForce4 Ti4600 and was planning on getting a 9800Pro closer to HL2's release. Then out of no where come the 9800 & 9600 TX cards that promiss good overclocking and performance. As far as I can tell, the 9800Pro will drop to around $300 which is alright I guess considering there's no way I'm willing to dish out $500 for the 9800 TX. On the other hand, the 9600 TX is starting to look like a great alternative.

I'm just curious how this card will compare to the other 9x00 Pro cards... any takers?

9600xt will perform better than a 9700 pro.

BTW the 9600xt and 9800xt hardly came out of nowhere, they've been talked about online for months and months and months.

I'd go with a 9800 PRO. Although, if you're looking for ''bang for your buck'' 9600 XT is a clear winner.

Ati says the 9600xt will out perform the 9700pro. I found my christmas present :cheese:

Im confused... if the 9600xt will outperform a 9700pro.... then it will have the same performance as th 9800pro? Cause´the 9700pro is only like 7fps difference from the 9800pro.

Better than the 9700 Pro? I think I just made up my mind. Seriously, for $200, that's an amazing deal. Not to mention it includes a free voucher for a $50 game (multiplayer?).

I'm gonna buy a 9800 pro in november, but I'll wait until I know the performance of the 9600XT compared to the 9700 pro and the 9800 pro.

I'm with stupid. That just doesn't make sense.

Maybe it will perform better than a 9700, but I dunno about a 9700pro. That would mean you could get a 9600xt for $200 or spend $500 for a 9800xt which isn't much faster.

The XT cards sound cool because if what I've been reading is true (from various hardware sites), they overclock themselves and have a badass cooling system. :)

Not to mention the 9600 TX doesn't have to plug into your computer's power supply due to its larger fan size that does not have to spin as fast to produce sufficient cooling. This doesn't concern most, but it should concern most Dell users (such as myself) who have a 250W PS. For instance, if I wanted a 9800 Pro, I'd have to dish out anywhere from $50 to $150 for a new power supply.

150 bucks for a new power supply? gez, go to your local computer store or ebay and get like a 400w for like 35 bucks :\

and its XT man, not TX :\

I think I have one less than 300w, but I have tons of lights and shit. Fans all over.. like 9 or more. Two hard drives.. to CD-RWs, and a 9800 PRO. Seems okay???

plus a volcano 11+, a rhobeus, a musketeer and an lcd display and hard drives coolers[total of 4 fans.]

I am going to try it on my gf4 and see if I am content with the game. A $200 card shouldn't be replaced by a $200 card in a year and a half. A new card can always come later and hey, it's another reason to play through the game.

Hopefully the benchmark will help players decide if they are content with their current cards.

Oops.. XT it is. As for the power supplies. It becomes a bit tricky with the Dells. www.pcpowercooling.com is offering a 400W Dell replacement for ~$150. That being said, I don't think you can just throw in any PS that you want into these PC's. They tend to "ignite".

I think he made up the whole thing

Xt just overclocks by itself on the fly, my guess is that just manually overclocking it would get you comparable results.

But perhaps it cools better than a pro? Only time and benchmarks will tell....

I can guarantee the 9600 XT won't be faster than the 9700 Pro.

The 9600 XT runs at 500/600 (Core/Mem).

The 9600 Pro runs at 400/600 (Core/Mem).

Both cards are on a 4-pipeline setup, vs 8 pipes for the 9700 Pro.

If you check out Anandtech's latest 9800 XT Preview, you can see that hte 9700 Pro stomps all over the 9600 Pro. I'd imagine the 9600 XT will only be 5-10% faster than the 9600 Pro. Still nothing competitive in terms of performance, with the 9700 Pro.

on ATI's website it says
Orders will be processed & shipped within 4-6 weeks after the product starts shipping.

ewww
when does it go in stores
id rather buy it in a store

5-10% Faster means:

On a 2.8Ghz P4, in UT2003 @ 1024x768

9700 Pro : 205.4 FPS
9600 Pro : 147.6 FPS
9600 XT : 155 - 162 FPS (155FPS = 5% / 162FPS = 10%)

These are just guesses. But I don't see a 100Mhz Core increase, giving the card 50 more frames/second, when the bottleneck isn't the Core Clock, it's the 4-Pipelines the card was fitted with.

yea that does suck owskie...is there any release date for it
ati or store?

they must've meant that the 9600XT will outperform the 9500 pro in all situations. or something like that...the notion that it will outperform the 9700 pro seems insane.

a $200 card with a voucher for hl2 that performs above the 9700pro...which performs close to the 9800pro in hl2? why would ati do that?

guess we'll have to wait for benchmarks/reviews whenever the major sites get their hands on the 9600xts

yes keep ignoring owskie

From Anandtech:

"According to ATI, the Radeon 9600 XT should be the first mainstream part to outperform the Radeon 9700 Pro in all situations – not bad for a $199 card."

So, shouldn't 9700 PRO prices drop below 200, then?? Hopefully the 9600XT will come out before HL2. :)

how much better is it than the 9600..pro
i want/need a card b4 max payne 2 and gothic 2 come out

I have a HARD time believing that the 9600 XT will outperform a 9700 Pro / 9800 Non Pro.

That had to be a typo on Anandtech.
