How long was Gordon out?

Most of the city is evacuated, Alyx has been searching for hours, Mossman has managed to get to the fecking artic (commentary specificaly mentions 'artic base'). How long has he been out of action? A day? 2 days? And what the hell is the Combine doing in the artic (return of Borials anyone?)

Is it? We don't know that. Even if true, the evacuation of City 17 may well have already begun a week before the Citadel is destroyed, because not everyone is going to be up to fighting back and the City is in enough Chaos for people to simply run away.

Mossman has managed to get to the fecking artic.

The arctic isn't so far away from where City 17 supposedly is. Whilst i'm intrigued exactly how she managed it, she probably just hopped on some kind of vehicle in the Citadel and flew away. Probably to find some project the resistence was working on out there now that the shit has hit the fan and the combine are going to start their invasion.

How long has he been out of action? A day? 2 days?

An unanswerable question... at the least it's probably about 8-12 hours, because It's sunrise (I think it is anyway) and HL2 ended with Sunset.

And what the hell is the Combine doing in the artic (return of Borials anyone?)

They get around. Why wouldn't they be? They own the earth. Even if they don't have secret outposts there, they probably followed Mossman who they regard as a double-crossing traitor.

The way I see it is this:

1) Gordon was definitely out for a WHILE, probably a good 8-10 hours. Yes, the city seemed pretty empty, but who says the evacuated? The Combine probably either unleashed one hell of a weapon (Striders at full power or something worse?) or the citizens who wanted to evacuate early did.

2) Judith managed to get to the artic pretty quick because mostly of where the teleporter went right before Gordon and Alyx left the Citdel in HL2. Maybe she ported RIGHT to the arctic base? Maybe she just ported to some random corrdinates right near the base? If she didn't teleport there, she really didn't have too far to go. City 17 looks like it's located in some northern reach of Europe, it's probably either Russia or Siberia.


3) The Combine are in the arctic along with Judith mostly due to what she's working on. Maybe she got the information packet as well as something more from the Citadel between Episode 1 and HL2? Maybe she's found out something worse the Combine are trying to do?


What the Combine packet Alyx has and what Judith discovered might be something that the Combine are trying top do to completely control Earth in one fell swoop. Maybe it's a new, more powerful Xen Relay? What it might be is a new form of weaponry. Maybe they managed to gather enough combat data to mass produce the GRAVITY GUN!? Who knows?

1. I'd say Gordon was out for at least 6 hours. The City was evacuated during that week, like Kupo said, not everyone fought.

2. Judith and Eli escaped the Citadel in one of Breen's escape pods. It wouldn't be too far-fetched to say she dropped Eli off outside the City, at the Vortigaunt camp, then moved on to the Arctic.
Ninja she couldn't have used a teleporter - there was no teleporter in the Citadel besides the one Gordon blew up.

3. The Combine probably tracked the rebels there.

I think it's a storage hanger for the machines they've built to defend Earth against the Combine.

also, remember at Nova Prospect when Mossman and Eli teleported out of there? where did they land, at that huge freaking thing on top of the citadel? or at a smaller thing in or nearby the citadel/city?
