How many more realism mods are we going to see?

I am really tired of all the bitching about 'unoriginal' and 'realistic' mods. I like them, you don't. I play them, you don't have to. So just STFU, stop complaining, and go and make your own 'original' mod. This discussion isn't really necessary.
 
It's not that I don't like "unoriginal" or "realistic" mods I just don't like people trying to capitalize on the popularity of another mod by making a clone of it... just to end up sitting in the popular mod's shadow.

Mods with very similar ideas should either merge so that the one mod will be bigger than any of them could be alone or think of something original that will really set them apart from each other.

In short, I'm not really sick of clones... it's the waste of talent on mods that go no where that bothers me.

Another problem I have is people accusing mods of being 'clones.'

What would you consider a clone? Would you call a mod based on the Second World War a DoD clone when it has new features, different goals, and other differences?

I think that before anyone should go about calling a mod a clone of another, do a little more research into what the concept is about, what features it will include, and overall what the goals of the mod are.

if you really want to get into the concept of originality then you have to go back to Aristotle who said "Orginality does not exist, everything we say, and everyhting we do is a repetition of someone else in time." or at least thats how what he said when translated into english. You can not argue on the point of originality because nothing is original. we walk in our own footsteps in the sand; that we haven't even made yet. Another personal favorite.
So i guess the real question is does it matter if there are 30 mods or 3 mods doing reletivley the same idea. And i don't think it does. It was argued that "crap" mods drain the talent pool. Well, why then did a modeler/skinner/etc.. pick a "crap" mod to work for? I suppose it's useless some people hate realism mods some people hate unrealistic mods, in the end IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER.

true that there can be more FPS combat mods of course
but makine mods that are very similar to CS, just having different weapons and a different background is what i was talking about. And there are a lot of those, maybe they would do better to combine their forces at least


i just say this from a players perspective

i download CS2 for sure, but i dont know if i would download a mod that is just slightly different - and beeing better is very hard i think

however i respect all mods. i just wanna give a hint to maybe think about this a bit - as the author of this thread wanted as well i think
 
Goetterfunke: After creating the ultimate Realism mod for BF1942 i must say i am very suprised that you have a thing against realism mods. I see your point about CS; but if CS2 is as hacked and cheat filled as the original then who wants to play that?
 
just watch you you don't get too original...that might ruin the game...might.. :)
