Hey guys,

I always heard about HL2 being stressful to the CPU but paid no mind. Yesterday however I was playing Anticitizen One when suddenly my on board speaker started giving out an alert signal. I was scared, unplugged and waited. Then I turned on the comp a while later and everything was okay.

Today I worked a few hours on the comp before giving myself the pleasure of the game. Mind I already had played two games and had the comp running for video capturing and cutting. I checked the temp and rest of the status, all was alright.

The moment I loaded the save game the alert started again. I was worried again, quit HL2 and went into my status console (I have an ABIT mobo with the uGuru stuff), everything was alright.

To cut it short from here: Halflife2 seems to send a wrong error to some component which makes the mobo believe it has problems. Good job Valve, seems you are really close to the hardware. To play HL2 I gotta use headphones (good thing is I use a 5.1 headset) b/c the warning sound is always there until I quit HL2.

I think it's kinda funny, it's not stressful but makes my mobo believe it is.

All that bios bullshit isn't that reliable, hell mine even reports that cpu overclocking failed. And it does it all the time.

Half-Life doesn't have access on that level, so something else is wrong.

Can't you turn off the program that is sending the alarm, just for the time being when you play HL2?

?

Are you sure it isnt a beep from pressing too many keys at the same time?

No, I don't blame anybody. I enjoy every minute of HL2.

Having just run through a couple of tests I can definately say though: it's only HL2, not even CS:S. I think it's funny, quit your fanboy behaviour :)

Poly: it's starting half through the loading and doesn't stop.

Weazel: no, it's a sound that I can't turn off. Only way would be to unplug the speaker :)

Everybody cheer up, this was supposed to be funny. I don't mind this to happen and I only have one chapter left so it's no big deal.

It started with Anticitizen One and I read that thos levels are the most stressful for the CPU.

Dude, just for me check in your bios if the fsb and mhz for your cpu are right. Asit was said half life doesnt have acesss at that level, however if it is confusing the system in confusing the bios and thus confusing the cpu monitor then its possible. Check ur bios.
