How the hell are we going to fight advisors? (mega spoilers)

Advisors are in HL2's world omnipotent. Omnipotent enemies are the biggest plot related mistake any writer can do because there is no way you can view it one as a beatable enemy believably after showing one of them basically kicking everyone's ass.

Also what's the point of Advisors? If they're oh-so-magical as shown in Episode Two, why don't they just surf around dimensions doing whatever they please? There's nothing that would stop them from doing that since they 1) can fly/float 2) can protect them by "holding" things. Add enough numbers and some cunning thinking like a huge blob of Advisors with constant debris field around them and you have something that's impossible to take down.

This is why I hate Advisors at the moment. While they work in Episode Two's story environment, they don't fit in to the big picture at all.

As for the two/three objects thing, that'd be nerfing the creature. Remember that it went through the roof and created a small vortex of debris, a lot more than just two individual things there.

Advisor's are far from omnipotent. Vortigaunts seem to be able to kill them (They were activily hunting them) so maybe we'll get some help from them. Even if it's not the vortigaunts, you probably won't be fighting them alone. If one of them catches you they'll probably be other allies around to shoot them. They probably can't keep the vortex shield foing and attack you at the same time, so they'll have to lower their guard to attack.

Plug the controller into port two.

I said they're omnipotent in HL2's world, not generally. The thing that worries me is that if they're range limited, then it would mean that everything from crossbow bolts to bullets would be able to take them down easily but then again such a flaw is so obvious for Combine ?berslug that they would clearly know to always wear an armor or a force field of some sort.

I'm not debating if we'll be able to take them down or not, I'm debating the way Advisors have been represented to us now which like I've already stated is very poorly done in terms of continuity. Advisors are merely a b-class plot device to me at this point.

I like the theory that the number/mass of objects an advisor can manipulate depends on their resistance, thus making a hundred pieces of immobile wood easier to lift than multiple struggling humans. The first advisor to enter the hangar in the end of EP2 looks quite concentrated to me (not seeming to pay attention to Eli.. or not being able to?), but I'm not an alien facial expression expert...

Cecil, Johnson... would you kindly stop naming him already? It confuses people...

Must have had a brain-hicup during that, I don't remember my vorti ally talking about hunting advisors. :imu:

The three others who "killed many antlions" say that line when you leave the area, just before Griggs urges you to be adequate.

I know. Why the hell are people calling him anything other than Johnson? It's his name, use it!

I would imagine that dog (him being immune to their psionic attacks and generally being able to wip their asses) will play apart in defeating them.

I agree we will probably see some help from the Vorts on this one. The Helo doesn't look big enough for the two of them and Dog (could be wrong). Besides that, I think Valve is going to want to give the pleasure of killing an Advisor to the player (with Alyx's help) after what they did to Eli. We need to have the closure of vengeance.

The reason Dog was immune to the advisor's attacks is because he caught the advisor off guard. I have a feeling that Dog will die in ep3 by an advisor, just imagine Alyx's reaction then. First her mother, then her father and now her pet that she grew up with ever since she was a little girl. I can just see the advisors using their telepathic powers ripping Dog into shreds.

Meh. Too many main character deaths dilutes the impact. Look at Halo3.

Agreed. Continuing to torture Alyx would come across as cruel and the public would probably not respond well to it. It's time Alyx gets to save some one she cares about and mercilessly kick some Advisor arse!

Agreed also, after you see
johnnson's death
then
343 guilty spark's death and captain key's daughter's death
didn't seem that special

Exactly. It was all in a span of about a half an hour of game play.
