how the hell do you run Source DS without steam account?

It said on the box under REQUIREMENTS: that you must have an internet connection to REGISTER your CD keys.

if its on windows, you make a steam account
if its on linux, you make like a steam account that has no meaning but its there

You make a Steam account using the Dedicated server update tools, under Windows or Linux. You can get either tool from the Get Steam Now page of www.steampowered.com

You do not need to make any purchases to download the dedicated server.

a topic like this wasnt closed some days before?

My question: Why do you particuarly need to run Source Dedicated Server without Steam?

No, just the CS:S bit needs that.

Why do you think there'd be a problem? You set up a server, then connect to it. Peasy.

you do if you want to run it in debug mode, it seems.

(eg. srcds.exe -steam -console etc, etc)

Man we got to think of a better name to call the source dedicated server. Source DS looks like a project name that valve is working on, for the Nintendo DS. How about "thing you use for running source based servers" or TyUfRSBS... That is perfect. From now on we will call it TyUfRSBS. So now even less people will know what the fuk we are talking about and that is the ultimate goal of any 1337 forum browser.

Erm, actually that Steam FAQ says YES. Not no. Yes.

As long as the server is set up on a different steam account, all will be well.
