When you buy Gold Edition over Steam, you will get, among other things, a hat and a book. Will they be dumped in your mailbox or what?

Last time I downloaded a hat ...it wasn't pretty ;)

Yeah think it's obvious you'd be getting a pretty big box at your door with that Gold edition.

I just wonder the cost and shipping total....a lot of stuff in there!

It gets downloaded through Steam.

The items are actually just little things you can carry around inside of the games.

The book replaces the knife in CS as a melee weapon, the hat replaces helmets in DOD, and the stickers replace all the sprays. The strategy guide is basically a key binding to impulse 101 and other cheats, wall hacks.

I posed this question last night, and it still hasn't been answered? Sheesh.

Great! a paper hat! :p I was thinking about the soundtrack, will we already not have it? actual mp3's from the game itself?

Emailed to you, and you print them out. :burp:

yep, its an origami hat

edit: i cant read :upstare:

Id assume they'd include the cost for shipping the stuff to you in the cost of the game, i could be wrong tho.

What is: Valve's back catalog currently available on Steam *(To be made available upon products' release.)???????

ah ok... too bad... I kinda already own all of them :|

I don't think we need any more people to tell him that you can't download a hat.

Yes, indeed, it will all be posted to you.

All? Even the game itself? :rolling:

Its not actually a hat, its just pictures of gabe wearing the hat in various poses.

They should ship the gold version with that "makeing of" book ... i dont need not strat guide. :p

I'm interested to know what possible alternatives you came up with. I mean, why did "sending the items through the post" not seem like the only fesible option?

Maybe Gabe Clause will hand deliver them all down your chimney on Christmas Eve, no need for Royal mail to lose them for you then.

They could very well fire them out of a canon in the general direction of your house. :afro:

Well...They could transfer the hat by telepathy, or they could let you print a paper version of it...No, not really, I wasn't really thinking, I just wanted it to be confirmed.

actually, the "surprise" is that VALVe have perfected matter transference over the internet during the last few years.

now u know the reason there wasn't time to make Combine vs Resistance MP. ;)

You're wrong,

they arent emailed you download them from steam... ;)

You have to go to Valve HQ and Barney will be waiting at the front desk to hand them to you.:p

Anyone getting the feeling the GOld Steam pacakge will be more than 80 bucks?!

Hey if they can mail(real mail, not e-mail) that shit over why can't they just make their own dvd box, you know like the kind retail games are in, with the manual and all and so, for all us people who just love to hold that packedge in their hands when they buy a game legally, and this way also people who have shitty internet connections can buy the game trough steam!!

i like that idea

Im sure if valve had the ressources to produce there own cd/dvd, packaging, manuals etc... then they wouldnt be with VU

dont get to exited :|

But they do have the resources to produce all that other stuff but not cd's and dvd boxes :hmph: ?

Oh yeah and this might seam arrogant, but why did they take survey if they should put hl2 out on dvd and so, I mean look at the specs for hl2, almost all people who meat the minimum requirements and above have dvd players,so why put the normal retail in 6 cd's, when 1 dvd is cheaper to produce that 6 cd's and it easier and faster to install from dvd's than cd's, WHy????

what about condition zero and deleted scenes? do we get those with the "back list''?

Something Called FedEx....

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the fact that 100 percent of the money from Steam goes to Valve. That's why they can afford to ship all this stuff and still have more than enough to pay for all the extras while not breaking the bank. I think the gold will be similar in price to the CE retail. I know just because of the ridiculous amount of extras with the Gold edition I'm getting my money back from EB and buying it online now. **** Vivendi.

Unfortunately Valve can't send a hardcopy of the game as they only own the ONLINE distribution rights to HL2 (legally valve can only sell HL2 if its transmitted via the Internet). If they send a cd/DVD they would be in breach of contract with VU who have the retail distribution rights. They can sell the game guide, hat and the rest of the stuff as it wont breach the Contract with VU.

This is one of VUs main gripes in the current legal case. They let Valve have online rights as they didnt think they would be worth anything however Valves development of a secure online distribution system plus the advent of widespread broadband has changed that, and VU are POed that Valve are gonna be getting a slice of 'their' sales.

As data loss or reformatting of HDs you can make a backup of the .gcf files in the steam directories and burn them to cd/DVD so you dont have to download 5 gb of stuff if your PC/HD goes to Data Heaven:)

What Im planning to do is buy it off steam and get the boxed version when it goes budget in a year or so. Sure hope my HD doesnt melt down or something in the meantime!

Yup. Im going for $99.

same here...if not more.... (unless that CE is lowered which it may be since it really isn't worth $80 to start with)
