Step 1: Get Xfire!
Download Xfire at this site, install and make a user! Xfire is alot like msn yahoo or AIM, you can have a list of friends and see what there playing.
Step 2: Get Users!
Once you have Xfire set-up, add some friends by clicking Tools then "Add friend", lastly click on "Search Xfire Users" this will bring up a box where you just put in there name, it will bring them up and then you simply add them.
To get a list of HL2.net players, look in this thread. There you will find a list of players, there Xfire name, and there prefered roles.
Step 3: Ask them!
Once you have users simply ask them to join if there playing, currently Xfire doesnt let you just join them automaticly so you will need to get the server name or IP from them.
Step 4: Connecting to an IP!
Once your ingame on the server screen click muliplayer, join internet then "Connect to IP", its just a case of putting in the IP to join. Some server use different ports, if they dont just leave it on the default 16567.
