Step 1: Get Xfire!
Download Xfire at this site, install and make a user! Xfire is alot like msn yahoo or AIM, you can have a list of friends and see what there playing.

Step 2: Get Users!
Once you have Xfire set-up, add some friends by clicking Tools then "Add friend", lastly click on "Search Xfire Users" this will bring up a box where you just put in there name, it will bring them up and then you simply add them.

To get a list of HL2.net players, look in this thread. There you will find a list of players, there Xfire name, and there prefered roles.

Step 3: Ask them!
Once you have users simply ask them to join if there playing, currently Xfire doesnt let you just join them automaticly so you will need to get the server name or IP from them.

Step 4: Connecting to an IP!
Once your ingame on the server screen click muliplayer, join internet then "Connect to IP", its just a case of putting in the IP to join. Some server use different ports, if they dont just leave it on the default 16567.

Sticky..?

thank you. Nice info. :)

I don't use Xfire, waiting for BF2 full game first.

In the full game xfire will (Or..should) surport just clicking join from xfire, no more messing around with IPs, yaaaay.

I have no idea if I can even play the game yet on my crappy pc, but my xfire's crushenator5000 for anyone who cares

I'll go get someone to sticky this for you :)

Ritz will be happy about that.

Ok with regard to Xfire, right now i really cba to go through all those names and add you all, who are the main co-ordinators of getting servers and making stuff happen, i'll just add them or the main players, or perhaps we could have a daily time of play or server ip?

Ritz you don't even need to talk to them or bother them, the IP is listed under their names. At least that's how I do it.

Doesnt work on my Xfire for BF2 demo.

I find it works, but it sometimes gives you random ips. If you wait a little it'll show the right one. Works everytime :)

yeah, sometimes itll show incorrect ips. if you wait as jimmeh said, itll come up with the right one (not always for me).

Xfire keeps giving me this error when I try to register.

Invalid Username. Usernames can have a maximum of 25 characters containing any combination of only lower case a-z and 0-9.

I've tried Pesmerga, Pesmerga1989, Peshmerga, Peshmerga2k...

What's up with THAT?

you have a capital P

I have an Xfire account now.......

now, i will have to fix my comp. ;(

you can have a nickname in xfire though, different display name, so it's not a huge problem.

also, clicking on the right tab opens a small window that shows what the IP of the server that the user you've selected is in.

my xfire never shows the ip's people are on, in the conversation side thing or in the list;

it's very annoying and hard to connect to anyone

any fixes?

Is there no server you all regularly go on? I want to play with some of you guys now and again, but don't feel like downloading and installing a whole program. Then making and registering an account.

It isn't a lot of work at all. Xfire is about 2MB's so it's downloaded before you can say "Enemy APC spotted". Getting an account is also easy as pie. It's about 10 minutes work and it's worth it.

I completely agree. Is anybody planning to set up a server that they'd be willing to give the IP address to HL2netters so everyone could log in for casual (but played seriously) games? I think it'd be the best of both worlds.

The world won't adapt to you just because you won't adapt to the world.

TheSomeowned!

I agree tho...we're not gonna start using snail mail just because you don't have an email account.

I'm going to try to get Xfire. It's just BF2 only runs (even crappily at that) on my dad's new computer, which he is adamant will not be converted into mine. Thus, I only have a limited account.

I'm also trying to convince him to give me an admin account as Punkbuster keeps kicking me from servers for "Inadequate O/S priviledges" which I guess is the limited account?

Correct me if its a different problem please.

ughh i have a comp i could run a server off of, but i dont know how to do it, and well i dont think that my service allows servers to be ran...hmm

Anyone know why Xfire doesn't log my time in BF2?

Edit: Nevermind, found the answer in the FAQ.

SimonomiS - Yup, you can't play on any Punkbuster servers unless you are on the administrator account. Otherwise Punkbuster won't catch some cheats.

So until then, no ranked servers for you :-\

Ah well, you see, my dad went off and fell asleep with the computer still logged on his account. ;)

By sheer coincedence, I'm now an admin and Xfire is installed. :D

I just had such a great moment in the last match I played.

Picture this; I'm in an APC, and the last of my passengers has been dropped off at the insertion point. We're in the wetlands- marshes are everywhere and we just so happen to be at the top of a very mushy cliff. Suddenly a rocket catches my side and explodes, and not wanting to become fried engineer, I back up.

Seeing a lone anti-tank soldier behind me, I decide to ram into him. So down goes the gas pedal and I rev backwards straight through him, and my APC falls off the cliff. Lucky I managed to bail in time. There was no body, so I presumed my foe had been knocked off as well. I lean over the edge to watch my APC tumple through the air, then land with a crunh. That's gotta hurt.

Glancing to my left, I see an enemy anti-tank soldier looking down at the wreckage. He's literally a metre away from me. It doesn't really register in my brain, and I turn back to the smoking APC. After about 5 seconds of staring, I suddenly realise there's a rocket wielding opponent next to me, and as if we were connected, we both spin round, face to face- and I unload my shotgun into his head.

As I watched his body tumble down off the cliff, I laughed.

Then, at that precise moment, a sniper got me in the back of the head, and I followed him.

(Virtual) life's a bitch, eh?

How do you guys play online together. Im guessing you play unranked servers because i can hardly get in myself, let alone trying to get into a game with other people i know...

Usually if I see an opening, I'll join a fellow. Otherwise, I just let it go....and join something else, or if I'm REALLY bored, I wait.

I just got my internet up with bf2 so i may as well post my xfire

stormy101, i fancy playing with some people that will wirk in squads.
