Okay, i wanna start mapping, starting off with half life (mods) . -maybe one day get good and be pro and work for a mod- which is what im trying to do :)

I need a list of programs/tutorials to help me out.
So if you want to help, please reply with links.

one thing... google is your best freind while trying to map - just type in "valve hammer switch doors" etc. and you'll soon find what you need ;)
(thats after you learnt the basics, tho)

also when i saved map, converted, and played on cstrike, i couldnt spawn (ct) or (t)

any help?

Just do vanilla HL. But anyway, did you use any entities? Like info_(whateverCShasforspawn) ?

Do you have the CS.fgd?

i dont have the cs.fgd? where do i get it, and yes i did to info_player_start and deathmatch

FGD stands for File of Game Data, and that's where the entities specifically for CS will be.

You'lll need the team specific ones for CS, iirc.

You can get the FGD here

It's for the Hammer 3.5 (which I don't use, but still, best to have the latest stuff)

Yea and spawns are not point based entities, they are brush based wich means that you must build a box and then convert it to an entity, same for the bomb site. But I think you already know that, so, go grab the CS-expert FDG and you'll be all set :)

I can't beleive that no one posted http://collective.valve-erc.com/ yet... its the best damn Hammer-learning site out there!

For a first map, I suggest making it singleplayer as not many people will really want to try out a first-map multiplayer with you. Just a suggestion. And hey, CS maps can be fun to make; I don't understand why people hate that game so much... as long as you aren't playing it with the usual sucky crowd, its a pretty fun game. So there. :)

http://www.cs-maps.org for 8671 maps, Tutorials, Utilities and a Forum for posting your mapping problems on. Or just to pimp. It rocks as I help run the forum and make bits for the site. ;o

pixelgames.com

Hey there,

We have a few tutorials at http://www.pixelgames.com

Some of them are more aimed at advanced mappers, but there are also ideas on spiffing up your map and such. We also are working on defining as many entities (point based and solid based) as we can.

If you have any questions we can always help ya out.

Feh, my mistake, never CS-mapped before

Have to point out to passers by..... spawn points ARE _point_ enities.

CS uses the entities already in half-life, info_player_start and info_player_deathmatch, to make points for the different teams. I don't know which way around it is though. Ask a CS mapper for that.
