How do i open (and edit) HL2 maps. When I go into open they cant be found.

i'm assuming your opening it in the SDK.

launch the sdk. when the window appears, at the bottom of the SDK launcher you will see "current game" set it to HL2. then launch hammer. this will bring you to the HL2 editor. open and there should be some samples for you. other than that, you can't open HL2 maps that you've played in game without a decompiler (which i believe may be illegal).

Your wrong.

HL2 maps are precompiled. They can not be edited in realtime (theoretically, you could change entities and textures) but you might as well use the editor for that anyway.

But how do i access the content like prefabs and static meshes, you know all those barrels, crates and monitors etc...

that depends on what u want. physics objects you want as a prop_physics or if multiplayer prop_physics_multiplayer entity, then go into its properties and choose world model, browse and insert it. Might be an idea to look for it in the model viewer first though.

*edit* try prop_static for the static stuff though. and don't go too heavy on the physics stuff (use it where its necessary) and ur fine

Thanks I got that one.

Anyways are there any SP tutorials. I'll need some help figuring out triggers and events when I want to spawn monsters and create sequences. That's one more reason why I'd like to see valves maps.

So is it possible to edit triggers or events within the HL2 maps?

Am I the only one who remembers that valve stated that they will make available to the public all HL2 singleplayer maps to edit?

That's what they said but....you know...it's Valve.
