This video provides a couple good examples of both time dilation and length contraction. Most of us understand that our GPS satellites are constantly reprogrammed to account for GR but the "how" is difficult to imagine. Apparently if the clocks on each satellite were not synchronized on a constant basis you would have a 7 mile margin of error per day.

It's weird to think that we are all on a separate timeline in a way, simply because of our movement. It almost gives you the sense of being in your own world, albeit only nanoseconds apart from others...

Space is BOSS.

I spent far too long in my teenage years contemplating stuff like this and extra spatial dimensions....
*Resumes wasted thinking*

Physics related thread is automatically Neptune approved.

Interesting fact: Magnetic fields are not something separate from electric fields. They are just a relativistic view of electric fields that only exist when you're moving.

What about my favorite magnetic monopole :(

Isn't that why they're called electromagnetic fields?

There's no such thing as a magnetic monopole :|

Pretty much. We always new electricity and magnetism were related (or at least, since we know what they were) but relativity has given us a full explanation of how magnetic fields come about.

According to the Maxwell equations magnetic monopoles shouldn't exist, but there are some people who claim they can because of QM.

Anythings possible according to quantum mechanics. You just need a big enough equation.

You just blew my mind. Know of any good reading on this?

Maxwell equations are a good place to start, though tends to be quite mathematical.

someone lock this thread before my head explodes or something...

Ok, I should clarify. Know of any good reading on this that doesn't involve math?

When it comes to math I totally suck, which is odd considering my line of work. I wish I was smarter in that regard.

Feynman Lectures on Physics?
I don't know
