I want to look through Portals textures, but I cant find a program to do so. Does anyone know of such a program?

If you search on the Valve Developer Wiki (can a mod make this a permalink, e.g. a redirect forum? it does get tiring posting this link all the time) - you will find info about VTEX (I think it's called) which you can use to compile and I guess extract textures to view in an image editing program.

If you have Photoshop, you can download a super-useful plugin that lets you load VTFs straight into PS. Get it here. At that link there are VTF plugins for various other programs but I've never used any of them so you should take a look if you haven't got PS.

A great alternative to PhotoShop btw is GIMP (GNU Imaage Manipulation Program) which is totally free and can do a LOT of the things Photoshop can do. There is even an interface for it that mimicks the user-friendly interface in Photoshop. But I'm not sure if any of Nem's tools work for GIMP.

Another program called VTF Explorer will let you view VTF files without having to extract them via thumbnails. Unfortunately, it hasn't been updated in years and may never be again but you can download it here: http://files.filefront.com/VTF+Explorer+v13/;4333494;/fileinfo.html

This version is quite old and won't view all Portal/EP2/TF2 materials properly since Valve have updated the format since. You can extract them and open them with something that can if you need to.
