I just got this movie and I must say that it is not only one of my favorite animes of all time, its one of my favorite movies of all time! I enjoyed it even more than Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away! The colors are unbelievably vibrant and the art is superb--better than anything I have seen to date! The story is engaing and keeps you involved with all of the weird and cute little characters throughout their adventures. I just can't say enough about it.

5 out of 5. :)

I'd really like to see it. But better than Princess Mononoke? Thats high praise indeed.

Interesting. Weird. Japanese.

Interestingly enough, the story is from a book by a welsh author. So its really just Japanese animation.

Notta lotta people know that.

Hahaha! Just the ones who have seen the film and how it states that it was based on a novel by Diana Wynne Jones right under the title of the film!

As good as it is, Mononoke is better. HMC's story is too disjointed. The worst bit is how Miyazaki invented a background of a war in the movie that the book never had... then didn't explain it whatsoever. It's the ultimate senseless war: it makes no sense, and nothing makes any effort to make sense of it! Seems a bit lazy to me.

Still, probably my forth favorite ghibli. Mononoke > Kiki's Delivery Service > Grave of the Fireflies > Howl's Moving Castle

Erm..... yeah, obviously they know.

:o

All of Miyazakis stuff is pretty good and are all on the same level of, wow that was a good story. What pulls chords is Grave of the Fireflies which willl probably make anyone cry. Studio Ghibli(with Miyazaki) i think would be better off if they went and made some killer anime/manga they really have endless tangentials in their movies all the characters, the magic, and random talking animals could add up for a lot of fun, good plot twist, and diversity. also their would be no such thing as filler eps. just my 2 cents

HMC was ok a bit boring at times but interesting none the least.
