"Hitachi Global Storage Technologies has announced their new 400GB 3.5-inch ATA hard drive, which they claim makes them the new capacity king. Specs on the drive are also available."

Copied that from slashdot

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!!!! too big (expensive), but perhaps when this surfaces on the market the prices on the lower size drives goes down? /me wishes (me needs more space!)

Yoww, whack in two of those and you'll be sorted for a long time ;)

Isn't that a bit too big though?

I'd prefer a couple of 200 gig ones than that. Just think of all the data u'd loose if it went all screwey :(

Heh. I'd prefer a few small, fast ones in RAID 0 to some behemoth. Anyway no matter what size you get, you'll always fill it up. It's some law of something or other... :D

The law of never feeling the need to delete crap?

This one guy I know has about 1.2 terabytes in his computer and only has about .2 left.

Lots of things in his computer. :)

yeha, no matter how much room you have. you'll fill it up.

but i wouldn't trust that company... didn't all their drives die at one point?

meh, i won't be excited until they finally hit the 1TB mark for a single standard consumer level hard drive.

Still 400GB is a hell of a lot of space but you will probably be able to easily fill it up if you like to download large full length movies or do video editing yourself.

400GB....Geesh, that would take forever to defrag. I wonder how much Windows XP can support...

go on kazaa lite, do a search for "porn", let the search go for about an hour, download everything that comes up, then repeat the search for "friends" and download everythign that comes up, then you should be able to fill that in about a week.

From the last article I read I think it was 16 ExaBytes, but that might be a theoretical limit when using some yet-uninvented FS.

Defragging is kinda like cleaning. The more you do it, the less time it takes. I defrag a couple of times when I'm on the computer, just so my comp will run quickly. Before I launch a game or before and after I install something.

NTFS is usually pretty tidy anyway; that is to say that the disc doesn't usually get that badly fragmented.

And I hear the LaCie have launched a 1/2TB drive. Good God, we're getting close to the 1TB milestone.
