Anyone know anything about this site?

http://www.blackmesaresearch.com

requires a username/password to enter.

EDIT: Nothing to be excited about, this is viral marketing by Black Mesa: Source ...that's right, a mod doing viral marketing instead of releasing gameplay videos

According to who.is:

yns2.yahoo.com

hmm, most likely domain name camping in hope of a big price for the name, like aperturescience.com

oh well.

Very possible, but could for other means, who knows, there might be a company out there called "Black Mesare Search" ;)

On a random note I die a little inside when people see my Aperture desktop or mug and think I work for an actual boring company, totally not getting the awesome reference. ;(

It has updated...and is interesting...

I wonder if it's official...meh, probably not.

Edit: Valve should do viral advertising for EP3.

Just because the Whois doesn't point to Bellevue, WA doesn't mean it has nothing to do with Valve.

The fact that there's a "Remote Access" place to login makes it seem likely this is viral. Valve or not, we have a responsibility to check it out don't we?

Now, if only I was good at this sort of thing.

I couldn't resist blogging about this! Someone must be able to figure it all out...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 23, 2008
BLACK MESA RESEARCH RECIEVES REGULATORY APPROVAL FOR REVOLUTIONARY NEW RESEARCH

Washington, DC — Black Mesa Research Corporation (NY:M), the world leader in advanced technology research and development, received regulatory approval from the Department of Energy today to proceed with the planning stages of exciting new high energy particle physics research presently slated to begin in the second half of FY 2008.

The results from this groundbreaking new research will lead to vast improvements in Black Mesa scientists' ability to harness the fundamental forces of the universe to greatly benefit American consumers' quality of life.

In recognition of the revolutionary nature of this research the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has already granted Black Mesa Research Corporation a waiver for standard requirements for high energy particle research in January. The Department of Energy's approval of the project earlier today marked the end of the major regulatory hurdles faced by Black Mesa Research for this research.

Sounds resonance cascadey to me :)

PS: Emailing [email protected] (linked to on the page) gets your email bounced back. I wrote an email from Gordon saying I lost my password and was recently hired as a Level 3 Research Associate in the Anomalous Materials Lab but alas.

Oh, it's boring, just more ridiculous overhype from the Black Mesa modteam.

Click on the second "s" in "Remote Access"... it goes to the BM:S website.

I like how they ignore the storyline of all Half-Life games.

yeah they were about a decade late on the resonance cascade

edit: They just removed the Black Mesa: Source link. too late

edit2: aaaand it's back, wtf

edit3: now it goes to dell.com. Attention BM:S webdesigner: stop, you have already failed

Oh just another thing that is right under our noses

Fake website, of course.
I wonder why people create fake viral adverts, like with LOST viral fleas. If it's viral for Black Mesa mod, they are total morons.

LOL failure.

It is definitely viral for BM. The OP's IP and the whois both point to Aus, which has nothing to do with Valve, and like I said the website linked to the Black Mesa mod website for a little while before the guy started changing the link around.

Excuse me while I vomit, I could MAYBE see a mod team doing a viral campaign for something they actually came up with themselves but over the past few years I've seen a lot more hype than substance for this mod. You'd think a team that's remaking something and not doing anything remotely resembling original at all would be a bit more humble... but these dudes are worse than Nuclear Dawn. Not to say there aren't plenty of cool people involved in BM, but ughhh.

Good try...

Ooooh...heh.

I don't understand why the Black Mesa team is wasting time on a terrible attempt at a viral website rather than spend time working on the game. I'm sure that there's more than enough work left to be done on the game.

they got bored of making BM:S and are now making Portal Source

I tried clicking on that and it came up with "Bad Request"!
Clambakes Research.

Clambake - An outdoor social gathering at which clams and other seafood (and often chicken, potatoes, and sweet corn) are baked or steamed, traditionally in a pit, over heated stones and under a bed of seaweed.

I think I'm onto something! To ze batmobile!

Ok, been doing a little digging. I can't find any link between black mesa source web site and the other two, diff names, addresses, registrars and hosts. Unsuprisingly, the other two are on the same registrar and host, but the names, addresses and numbers are clearly faked (shocker, i know)

Now, the question is, are there any clues in the whois?

First of all is the address given for blackmesaresearch.com:
Name Private Registration
Address 1 NF-13
Address Clifton
Address 85533
Address AZ
Address UNITED STATES
Email [email protected]
Phone +1.9281558080

All seems fairly standard, except the first line of the address. Looks deliberate to me. Nf-13 is, according to google, sodium cyclamate, otherwise known as sweetener. As far as I know, the "1" in "1 NF-13" does not effect it, so you could read this as "one sweetener"

clambakesresearch.com lookup gives us:
Name Dwight Eisenhower
Address 555 Yellow Brick Rd.
Address Topeka
Address 66601
Address KS
Address UNITED STATES
Email [email protected]
Phone +1.9995551324

For this one, aside from the obviously fake phone and address, we have an email. Emails to it are bouncing at the moment, so I wonder if that is a clue.

If I squint, I can almost make a connection between "sweetener/truth" and "the cake is a lie", but not quite, and thats the best I can come up with.

Prob all a load of bullshit and chips* but who knows, maybe something in it.

Before everything changed.

tell them that you work for a top-secret lapratory working on particle physics, but you can only tell that much because the rest is top-secret. ;)

Shut up your face, I knew that :p

Anyway, I only said I couldn't find a connection, not that there wasn't one.

Plus, anyone can link to any web site, might be a red herring

/excuses and bullshit :D

So, anyone got anything new on this?

yeah they were about a decade late on the resonance cascade
Huh? HL1 takes place in the year two-thousand blank (200-). It's not late at all. Not a very interesting site though.

I thought it was the late 90s? It's been a while but I thought the letter in the HL1 manual was dated like 96 or 98 or something to that effect.
