President Hugo Chavez returned to his weekly radio and TV broadcast Sunday, extolling the ideals of socialist thinker Karl Marx and telling U.S. officials to "Go to hell!" for what he called unacceptable meddling in Venezuela's affairs.

Another stupid commie, nothing more. Fidel will die soon and Chavez want to be a new hero of revolution and icon for South America and reds around the world.

indeed Polaris,I hope you will continue posting in this thread when Solaris drops in and starts raving and cheering

Somebody needs to put Chavez out of his misery, he is turning my country into hell...

Oooo, another Chavez thread.

Seriously, people (that includes nations) have the right to choose for themselves, even if someone else might think that choice is wrong.

Yeah, making the wrong choices is every nation's right. The global community can always correct people with tanks and infantry.

Thats right, I'm sure Hitler would agree with the "mind your own business" argument :p

There's nothing stupid about him saying that. He's just a bit rude, that's all.
If Venezuela has oil for creating a socialistic republic, then why not let it do so. As long as it's not a regime like in China or even worse - North Korea, there's nothing wrong with it.

All regimes go bad, it's just a matter of speed.

Yeah, that's why i said - as long as it's not a regime, they have little to worry about. However, their president seems to become more of a dictator with every passing month.
Bush has basically been one through most of his time as a president, and look how this ended up.

I like him - he's got cajones
Until he actually does something, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt if not tacit approval
He's democratically elected, he's given Venezuala international power, he's stood up to the regional bully and he seems to have tried to do some good for his countrymen....

I must admit I was quite fond of him for a while (I thought it was a good move nationalising the oil industry, for instance) but lately hes been up to all sorts of dodgy stuff, such as the 'Law on the Social Responsibility of Radio and Television':

or gag law, which, in effect, makes the private radio and television system part of the state, which controls its schedules, programs and content.[54][55][56][57]

I dont care how good your other policies are, restrictions on free speech and an independent press is totally inexcusable.

Granted, some of the things he's done for his country have been arguably good. However, I think he is a very dangerous man and is indeed a threat to democracy.

He's becoming far to powerful and full of his own power. I won't be surprised at all if 15 years down the line he's still in power at the top of a new dictatorship. I mean, he's not even trying to hide the fact that he wants to completely take over the government with his bid to end presidential term limits.

This is like what happened in North Korea, by Kim Il Sung, right after the Korean War, except that this is a bit slower.

vete a la puta mierda yanquis!!!

what's the big deal?

Why did you add a racial slur?

He never said that.

racial slur? yanqui is not a racial slur ..it means yankee

because the OP is from the pov of someone who recently discovered chavez and his anti-american ways?

gringo isnt necessarily a bad word but in this instance it's meant to invoke racial hate

why this surprise you?

is obvious that the world hav seen this is a copycat of castro

I am getting a bit worried if he comes whit another stupid laws soon

EDIT: and honestly USA should not care about it,thats what chavez wants

also the worst that may happen if is the USA go all 60's again since almost all the liders of southamerica are friends of chavez

EDIT2
Criticizing excessive consumption and self-indulgence, Chavez also announced plans to raise domestic gasoline prices and approve a new tax on luxury goods such as private yachts, second homes and extravagant automobiles.

"The one who will pay is the one who fills up the BMW," Chavez said of the gasoline tax.

He did not give details of the gasoline price hike, which he said would not affect bus drivers who provide public transportation, or the luxury tax. He said revenue from the new measures would be put toward government social programs.

this is becoming a new concern here

cuz off course everyone that hav a car is a rich ass whit bmw:rolleyes:

Even China has cold relations with North Korea, from what i've seen.

I certainly dont belive Chavez is a evil Diktator,I just think it's scary he believes so many things that he implements in his policys...just like what gick was talking about.

As I've said, all a matter of speed. North Korea is the far future of all regimes and administrations.

Seems Chavez wants us all to pay more at the pumps...

Venezuela supports a cut in world oil output to boost sagging prices and will order foreign joint ventures in the country to slash production ahead of any decision on quotas by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

Oil prices fell in world markets to almost $53 a barrel today from a record $78.40 on July 14, threatening to stall President Hugo Chavez's soaring state spending. Last week, he announced plans to nationalize much of the country's telephone, electricity and oil industries with government cash.

So, thank god for nationalization, right? Or perhaps not, since it also seems that Hugo's got a thing for buying weapons...

Venezuela, the world's fifth-largest oil exporter, has spent more on arms purchases since 2005 than China, Pakistan or Iran, according the U.S. Defense Department.

Venezuela, under President Hugo Chavez, spent $4.3 billion compared with $3.4 billion spent by China, $3 billion by Pakistan by $1.7 billion by Iran, Defense Intelligence Agency Director Lieutenant General Michael Maples reported in a review of potential national security threats worldwide.

Buttressed by increased oil revenue, Venezuela, ``emerged as a major arms buyer,'' turning to Russia ``for high-tech weaponry'' with an agenda to ``neutralize U.S. influence,'' Maples said in an annual report to Congress. Venezuela's arms spending increased a total of 12.5 percent over 2005 and 2006 compared with the previous two years, and ``we judge these trends will continue in 2007,'' Maples wrote.

I think this whole thing's going to bite Chavez in the ass, which means it'll hurt Venezuela as well.
