Although it's a bit odd that "Christa Weyand, named in Germany only as 50-year-old Christa W" Obviously different country, different law, but it's a bit odd that here they can disclose the names thatare protected in Germany. That won't necessarily prevent reprisals.

Gotta say i agree with Letters, if he was implying what i think.

I hate the fact that society seems obsessed with bad news (not saying you are necessarily). I'd rather not have seen that piece of news as a thread title. Fine if the title was something to set up a discussion, then that link as an example to illistrate the point, but just posting it as you did i find somewhat depressing.

To me it seems as though you only gave it that title to grab our attention. Perhaps that wasn't your intention, or the thought that some may not like it didn't occur, or perhaps you just think that i'm trying to shield myself from all the 'nasty things' in the world. Regardless i think your remark was a little uncalled for.

EDIT: I havn't even touched on the fact that many people browsing this forum are relatively young (i know you are, but i mean maturity wise), and i don't really think it's appropriate without warning to be honest.

You know what? Shit happens, and we have to acknowledge it. Being ignorant solves nothing, you mean you would rather not know about the holocaust so that you'd not have to get into the situation where you might've actually *gasp* felt bad about another person?

I didn't mean to imply any "sensation" around the thread title, I wrote that when that was the only thing I knew about this case.

I am really surprised by you guys. You don't like bad news because you want to live in your happy la-la world where the worst problem might be how you'll get a hold of HL2 or get more skilled in CS.

I am well aware that 'shit happens' and will watch the news myself so that i become aware. I am NOT ignorant about my surroundings, nowhere did i say that i wanted to be shielded from news such as this. Nowhere did i say that i didn't feel for the child or it's family.

My objection is the way in which you forced this news upon us (thread title). Clearly you've not thought that others may not want to hear this (obviously you would not agree with them), but i just think you should have shown at least a little respect/ community awareness (regarding age) and given a warning in your post as opposed to just blurting out a headline (what it seems like to me).

P.S. i don't play CS so don't even try that one!! :rolleyes:

Although you're clearly being sarcastic that in my opinion would have been better and i expect many peoples parents would thank you for it.

If you do decide to change it (i've clearly said i think you should) how about something like like "Sad news", or as Dr. Freeman said, something like "Humanities bad apples".

i won't agrue against u because i realize the number of very young pple who visit this site...its just that i have seen some other shady threads in the past where nothing has been done...so the staff doing something about the title of this thread was not likely.

I got your point from the beginning, i just don't agree with it. :)

I would have said nothing more, but then you started calling me 'ignorant', implying that i didn't have feelings for other people etc... Obviously i wanted to defend myself and my point of view.

Looks like we'll agree to differ on this one. :)

Yeah i know, i just thought i'd point it out so perhaps other people may think before doing it (even if they decided my view isn't the one for them at least they thought about it).
It's tough to know where to draw the line, but for me this was definatly across it.

Why is it that its so frowned upon to generalize and stereotype countries and regions, but when it is done to the US, it is fine? I do not respect that statement, and I am sick of being mocked around here for being American. Just because I live here, doesn't mean I agree with my government, I am my own person and do not want to be ridiculed for my nationality.

Stop mocking Americans simply because they live here. And that goes for any other ethnic/culteral group as well.

(I realize that you and SLH talked, but this is a different point.)
