Hunting Freeman

Since beating HL2 Ive been replaying HL1 and the expansions in order to put the story together and refresh my memory. One thing that is not making sense to me is why in OpFor the soldiers are specifically hunting Freeman. I understand they are there to contain the incident and prevent anyone escaping, buy why are they actually looking for Freeman? And how do they know about him?

Because they were supposed to kill everyone inside Black Mesa, and Gordon was the ONLY one giving them trouble, that's why. Gordon killed hundreds of soldiers...

The military was tracking him through the devices in his suit, and saw how he was killing soldiers all over the place. They were hunting him down as revenge.
Also, some of the more responsible soldiers tried to capture him alive for interrogation, since they suspected he might have been the one who sabotaged the experiment.

Remember that the Marines had a grudge against Freeman by the time that they were pulling out. He was slaughtering Marines by the hundreds. If you replay the Marine sections of HL, you'll notice that they start taunting you with spraypainted signs (nothing gives you a warm fuzzy feeling like "DIE FREEMAN!") and a couple discuss your involvement with the resonance cascade (a conversation that ends with, "All I know is he's killin' my buddies...oh yea, he's gonna pay.").
