Well, it looks like I'm right on the projected path of the Hurricane that is supposed to come through tonight. Have fun in your safe houses. All I have to say is that I had better live through this if only to play HL2 & CS:S. :E

Wish me luck.

A weird fact: My favorite cat and Natalie Portman's favorite dog share the name of the Hurricane that could possibly ruin, or end, my life. I don't think it means anything but I thought it was funny.

well, good luck dude. don't let that thing knock over your house and crush you...or worse, your COMPUTER!!

just kiddin :) of course you're more important. well, some would beg to differ, of course :p

I hope you keep yourself and all your precious precious valuables safe, and again good luck.

Yeah, I've got the computer protected better than myself, now that you mention it. :E

One more thing: It's Friday the 13th...

:(

don't die, build a fort around your house!
I don't want to have to add an RIP cybrman :(

Wow, that sucks. I wonder... how is it in the states? if you loose lets say your roof in that hurricane, will your insurance cover it? Here in Finland our insurance doesn't cover natural disasters, but then again, we don't really have any.

You live on Florida! Jesus, that is right on the hot zone.

I hope you have some sort of a bunker or bomb-shelter near you mate. Maybe it isn't so bad, and it'll just crisp Florida.

Hillsborough is in the middle of all of the counties on the coast that are under hurricane warnings. The predicted path seems about right (if a bit behind schedule) but, so far, it hasn't picked up as much strength as the local news has been predicting. It's probably going to be on the lower end of a category 3. We should be far enough inland to avoid significant flooding/damage to our property. Basically, under the current circumstances I'll be fine unless it spawns some tornadoes in my area or these huge oak trees fall on our house.

It's not going to be anywhere near as bad as Hurricane Andrew was when it hit Miami.

Hmmm it hasnt made landfall yet so you can still play CS... :)

Good luck mate. My in-laws live near Tampa and my wife and I are really concerned. Damn weather and it HAD to be Friday 13th didn't it? Shit.

EDIT: What CS server do you play on most m8?

If I were you I probably would have evacuated... actually I wouldn't have. I'm too much of a weather nut. We don't get those kind of things up here. We just get blizzards.

I would put your computer in a high place..but protected, because flooding is possible I'd say.

well, i'm in Gainesville. fortunately i'm far enough inland not to really worry at all, just maybe flooding. I moved to florida last summer and this is my first experience with a hurricane. i'm kinda excited.

I'd be excited if I were there, even through the danger of death/injury or loss of property. But because I'm not there I'm scared as to what might happen to my in-laws, who live about 10-15 mins away from St Petersburg, the estimated landfall position :(

Shouldn't you leave Tampa?

I thought they were ordering people to evacuate, but...evacuating a whole city might not be plausable.

I'm currently 10 to 15 miles away from the coast of Tampa Bay... which is outside the mandatory evacuation zones. Luckily, I didn't leave anything at USF when I went home for the summer. I wonder what will happen if USF sustains serious damages.

Avast ye! It be time to ride ye storm yet again as every year! Yarr! Quite the excitement! It be passing over me as well maties. Now swab the poop deck, we be having some adventure tonight!

YARRR indeed. Let's hope that our friends/family survive to tell the tale :)

Its never as bad as the media usually makes it. Never know, things could change this time. To this day we've never had any damage done to our property due to the weather.

i was talking with one of the guys in the lab here and he told me about a hurricane some years ago as a kid on the east coast of florida(jacksonville i think) and they were having 80mph winds(130kph for you UKers) and he could lean into the wind at least 45degrees and be held up. cool. :D btw i hope nothing serious happens to my fellow floridians.

Well my father lives in Clearwater So I hope he'll be Ok.

I just talked to him, he's pissed off because the Hotel he works at has shutdown haha. It's going to hurt the business yada yada yada....

He's the F&B Director at the Hilton on Clearwater Beach, cybrman maybe you know the hotel I'm talking about. He was going to stay at the hotel but then meteorologists started predictiong 10 ft. storm surges.

I lived in Pinellas County for 6 years and everytime a hurricane would start coming towards us it would just veer off into Louisiana or Texas. I Guess Tampa's luck has finally run out....

Looks like it may hit south of TB now, somewhere near Venice or even Ft. Myers.

Well I'm watching CNN, and they're saying Charley is almost a category 4 hurricane now

Yeah, I just saw that. I think it just recently went to an official category 4 hurricane. Ft Myers is in trouble...

Indeed.

It is now a Catagory FOUR hurricane with winds around 140 MPH!!!

I hate the news... you turn on the telli and all you hear is "OMFG OMFG RUN LOLZ DIS CIRCLEY THING WITH A HOLE IN THE MIDDLE IS GONNA PWN j00 AND j00r HOME LOLZ!"... pisses me off.

Dude.. wtf do you care? You are in Brooklyn for christs sake. People in Florida should be running. This is a major situation. A catagory 4 hurricane is nothing to joke about.

Hurricane Andrew (back in 1992) was only about 15mph faster than Charley is reported to be now and it did around 26.5 billion dollars in damage, a figure topped only by the September 11th terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.

Yeah looks like it's gonna hit south in Ft. Myers somewhere. It'll still be bad here, but not nearly as bad as if it had hit us straight on (by us I mean Sarasota)

have you ever been in any other hurricanes outside charley?

If it carries on this way, how long do you think you will have before your power and connection get affected?

I was in the projected path now it turned a bit more east so we're only going to get clipped by it.

if it hits me straight on I'm guessing the power will go out around 8pm

doesn't look like that's gonna happen, so hopefully there's gonna be no power-out here /me hugs internet

Yea it's gonna hit me around 8 pm. It's going to be extremely windy out and storming pretty hard. There are also tornado warnings for my area until 2 am. I just hope my house doesnt get recked.
