Hurricane Charley

i was talking with one of the guys in the lab here and he told me about a hurricane some years ago as a kid on the east coast of florida(jacksonville i think) and they were having 80mph winds(130kph for you UKers) and he could lean into the wind at least 45degrees and be held up. cool. :D btw i hope nothing serious happens to my fellow floridians.
Heh, I live in Jax.

It was headed right for us at the beginning of the thread, but with the change of direction I'm now barely in the low damage range in which they say power lines and small trees might get knocked down... so, it might not go off at all here.

Still online here...expected winds are now 75+ MPH...it moved south of the expected path, which would have REALLY nailed us in a bad way...ALOT of mobile homes in this area...

whew that was a close one> i just woke up and apparently it changed paths again and missed us. the power went out for a ilttle while here, but just came back on

I live in jacksonville, fl i am not at all worried Ive noticed the news tend to exaggerate on theese storms and the shelters arent all that great never know what kind of crackpots youll meet hanging there pretty annoying... I feel it will lose tons of power as it hits land and I dont expect my power to go out. only thing I will do tonight is get a flashlight incase and some dry foods and not sleep inmy room because I live under tons of trees. BTW A Tornado hit yesterday here, and all the school kids are talking about how their life flashed before their eyes...
To me its all over rated really exaggerated I mean when WTC Happend the kids here could give a ****less.. pretty ****ing annoying imho

I'm in the same city. The media is exaggerating the hell out of it.

You wouldn't feel it is an exaggeration if you lived in Ft. Myers.

I wasn't referring to the hurricane.

Of course Ft. Myers wouldn't; the tornado didn't touch down there.

Holy crap I didnt know some many people from Jax went to these forums. 0_o

wow, it missed gainesville COMPLETELY. i mean utterly and completely. the university closed at noon today and absolutely nothing happened. no rain, no wind, nada. i'm disappointed. it was supposed to be my first hurricane and i got nothing, nada, nicht, zip.

good luck, dont die! i saw a picture of that from a satallite, crazy.

It was heading straight for where I lived but turn more east at the last second and we only got a little drizzle and some wind. Now I have to dehurricane proof the house tomorrow :(. I'm glad it didn't hit us though.

This hurricane sucked balls. No reports of extensive damage in Jacksonville.

:|

There was a tornado here a few days ago guys, that did some damage to jacksonville not to extensive. Like I said the hurricane was WAYYYY overrated but I guess its better to be safe than sorry.
Heres a story one time this huge hurricane was heading for us I forgot the name of it, and we boarded up the house taped some windows, and left this can of nails on the roof trying to get out before the house deadline. So we stay a day at the shitty shelter with all kinds of wierdos roaming around. Hurricane hits us nothing really gets damaged. I go back home to find the can of nails sitting unmoved on the roof. I find that really elders, and people with mental disabilities are the ones who need to evac.

and Adidajs hurricanes aren't fun thing to really experience as everything tends to close down and you become stranded in your home with no power, and just stuck eating dry foods. But if you really want action go to key west.

yeah, well i just wanted to experience it at least once here in Florida. Since i live in gainesville at least 100miles inland i doubt it could ever do serious damage here. I just wanted some strong winds and lightning. i hear that people were killed by Charley. That's just horrible.

My sister and her family live in the North Fort Myers(just south of Punta Gorda) area. We havent been able to contact them yet. Hope they are doing ok.....
