Heading straight for my town of West Palm Beach, I'm really starting to freak out. Its almost a guarantee that my roof is gone...but other than that, anything can happen, this house has never had a hurricane such as this. Its kinda nerve-wracking. We have like....60 bottles of water plus another 8 gallons.

Its real dark in the house, because of the shutters, but, we installed two clear ones, maybe I'll be able to get pictures. Or my roof will be gone and me, my dog, my mom, and my dad, will be in the bathroom with matresses over our heads. Whichever way, its gonna be bad.

Good luck and prayers go out to all who are about to be power-owned by this thing. I hope I make it out with my computer!

Ah yes, another Hurricane. Its quite a big one as well isn't it?

Hope you don't lose too much to the wind.

Edit: I have jsut one thing to say though...

Brick. We've been using it for years...Its like a man once said. Most of the American south east must have been built by the first two little pigs. Honeslty, I just don't see how wooden houses in an area prone to hurricanes is the way to go. :)

Hah, "power-owned" ... I know the hurricane is no joke, but I found your terminology amusing. Good luck to you and yours. Why aren't you evacuating?

Just do what the years of playing CS should have taught you.

Make it so pissed it leaves and shoot it with the AWP alot.

Twister is on TV tonight here. That movie might give me an idea of waht you are going through...

If I could make that thing head our way I would, it's too bad you guys had to get two large hurricanes back to back. Florida is like our little pinball flipper, keeping the big bad hurricanes off our coast. I wish you guys the best of luck, and our prayers are with you.

Don't you worry... All those people around the world who continually have their hand out for US help will be by shortly to lend you a hand...

Shellback, that was an asshattish comment. There was no help from other countries after Charley....we did it ourselves, Floridians. Hooray for misinformation!

Anyway, 145mph winds, yeah, its pretty crazy, but tornadoes generally have around 200-250mph. Its gonna be interesting, and my roof will probably be gone. Damn the shingles.

Oh, Farrow, our house is Concrete, we're close to learning the secrets of the brick.

EDIT: We aren't evacuating because we aren't in an evac zone, and, our house should be able to survive it, minus the roof and the aluminum back porch we have. Hell, it saves us the trouble of having to take it down ourselves. We do have above ground powerlines, cables, phonelines, etc. in the back of our houses, so those are likely to die. We also have lots of trees. So, I have no idea how many things will fall on our house, but we won't have power for quite a long time. Hooray generators!

Sure doesn't seem like it.
Sorta came out like this to me:
"I'm a right arsehole with a hard head that thinks the U.S. can't handle itself"

But if he is being facetious....hahaha?

I think Steelwind was right...

I think he was suggesting that perhaps nobody wants to help the US...You never can really tell on the internet though.

What kind of name is hurricane Francis? Might aswell call it hurricane sissy-boy :p

Having the eye of the storm pass over you isnt nearly as bad as having the leading edge pass over you...

That much is true....however, if it wasn't for the fact that for the eye to pass over you, you need to first go under the leading edge and all that is in between...and curiously, everything after the eye.

Thats true but the part of the storm with the highest winds is just to the left or right of the eye depending of which way the hurricane is rotating.

QF ****in E. I live in a house made of brick and have been through some bad shit in my lifetime too (I live in Jacksonville, which might get a lot of heavy damage from the storm) and it's still here.

GL to West Palm and whoever stands in its way. We'll see you on the other side, so to speak.

I guess its like naming your vicious guard dog "Tiny".

It's funny, France in spanish, also means French.

Hehe, France will is going to devastate the US.

I wonder who chooses the names.

Yeah, because if we named it Francine, it would be sexist :dozey:

Huh?

I thought all Hurricanes were given female names, and then typhoons were given males names.

I fail to follow your logic.

you get the leading edge of the storm passing over you TWICE and winds going on compleatly oppocite directions to boot.

meaning the most damage.

Wow, thats pretty tough, get pictures, and use your satelite modem to post them on the site when the storms over :p

And good luck! I'd put all my valuable stuff in the safest place possible (ie computer).

Don't want that 2by4 in your monitor now do you?

unless floyd is a female name. the last hurricane is Gaston, also french. odd.

i'm in gainesville. this hurricane is gonna suck.

[sarcasm]Are you dead yet?[/sarcasm]

Maybe its the other way round...In fact I think it is. I know though that they give males names to one and female names to the other.

Your fine if the eye is going over you, thats the calmest part, the area which gets hit hardest will be the north-west area's, thats where you get the strongest wind.

We've been through this...The eye, being situated in the middle of the storm, funnily enough, means you have to pass under at least half of it :)...and thats only if it magically dies when the eye is over you

hmm..in response to Shellback...the USA never ask for international aid.

Besides, it's not like you need it.

I think thats kind of why they don't ask. Its nothing to do with arrogance really, which some might suggest. That isn't to say they aren't a proud people, but when a country is that rich it really doesn't need it. They also have a large amount of aid agencies based in the country anyway...

exactly. They have to lend a hand to others, because they already have plenty of surplus.

Yeah...and they do :) Well...Not all of them obviously, but then, I don't remember the last time I gave £2 a month the oxfam or anything.

charity's a bitch. If you do it you feel bad about it, if you don't, you feel bad about it.
