I am interested how the type of car you drive affects your steam preference :)

Ok so here's the deal. I have a theory that a majority of people who drive/prefer automatic cars like steam, whereas a majority of people who drive/prefer manual (or stickshift as americans call it, i think) don't like steam as much.

so post your answers to prove/disprove my thought.

my reasoning comes from the analogy that steam is like driving an automatic, everything is done for you, but you lose some of the finer points of control from using it.
manual is just vice versa.

post away :)

Yes it's stickshift...Tell you the truth your theory might actually be right.I for one like manual and don't like steam much.

What about people, like me, that drive both regularly? Do we count as manual or automatic?

Your the type who gives a rats ass. It's just there so use it...right? :D

by the way i prefer manual and don't like steam so much. but i still use it. my girlfriend got a new auto car, a medium price one and i prefer my 1980 manual. it feels like i am in control of the mechanics more, and i like that.

Manual, and I think everyone should be taught basic steam usage at school...

true, link, and have it beat into them that a half-functional friends list is better than no friends list.

Auto/like steam for me :P

Tho im still having driving lessons and I havent had any experience with automatic cars, but I just think manual transmission is more fun to drive with :p

I love Steam and I've never driven an automatic car, ever.

well the results are inconclusive! thanks guys :)
my main point is that i think steam is more like an automatic car.
Feath, perhaps an auto is up your alley.

this was all just a random thought i had the other day, thanks for helping out

I drive both manual and automatic and I like steam

dude you shouldn't have given away your theory, now people know why your asking and might not tell the truth... Joo n3wb dis isn't teh scienze!!!!1 :)

Manual + steam = win :)

Nah, I think steam is a positive step forward, but it just has it's bugs like everything else.

I love steam and I don't drive either. But I figure that I would drive with a stickshift, automatic doesn't seem so appealing.

My Cobra is a stick and my Dakota is an auto; I personally don't really have a problem with steam. Look at it this way, if we didn't have steam we probably wouldn't have the CS : S beta as there would be no way for Valve to validate if someone has the ATi cupon or CS : CZ.

Since a lot of people on this site are from Europe and we tend to use Manuals anyway, I think the results are a forgome conclusion :)

Automatic cars are poo :p Not that it matters now with so many speed cameras and stupid limits around nowadays, but you can generally get better acceleration on a manual.

By the way I like Steam. I don't think the transfer from old halflfie to Steam is like going from a manual to an automatic, its more like going from the horse to a car. Old halflife had a coolness about it that the new improved version doesn't...however, it is like I said, new and improved.
