I was perusing a small pawnshop in my home town (a tiny town in Appalachia), when I made an interesting find:

(no idea why the text appears backwards in the photo, btw)

The cost? $5!

Second hand?

Dayum. Wouldnt mind find on of those for $5...

I don't care anymore, I have all the pages completely scanned and stored on my Computer if I don't feel like turning pages. :p

Second hand?

Yep, a couple of small stains on the back, but in pretty good condition.

$154.27?!

Shit, I should sell mine...or keep it so it becomes more valuable in time.

That store seems to have a pretty high price, they usually sell on ebay for around 100. Of course, it would likely appreciate in value.

you are a lucky sob.

I saw that in Fry's a long time ago, but thought it would be on shelves a lot longer. :(

I bought mine for $34.95. Then again, that was when it first came out.

Wait, are they seriously worth that much now??

yeah same, for about $40 here and I'm going to hold onto it for as long as I can

I got mine for about $35, you're lucky to find one at less than $40 nowadays.

It makes no sense that's it's not available as a free download somewhere (legal).

If Valve doesn't intend to make any more, what possible interest could they have in not letting it be distributing? Adding mystique to the franchise?

They sold Half-Life for a freaking dollar!

You lucky load of sobs.

Wish I had One :(

ah well.

Wow, I got mine around when it came out, I don't remember how much. I think I lost the dust jacket.

Wow, I had no idea they were worth so much now. My copy is very well loved, coffee stains 'n' all. I was thinking about buying a fresh lovely copy but I guess I won't >_>
Mine too actually, well I use it as a footrest actually. I should be more loving to it I guess....

This
Note the price.

Intriguing; I had no idea the books worth had rocketed so much, though it is hardly a surprise. My copy is in more-or-less perfect condition, situated among the various other Half-life entries I have accumulated (not so well preserved, thanks primarily to my affinity for such anal reading).

It's too bad Raising the Bar is more of a glossy, glorified cover-to-cover art book -- they could have accompanied the majority of the artwork pieces with more comprehensive commentaries, as seen in one of the earlier prints of the book. A rare print that I am sure would cost, oh, much more.

Way back when the book the was released, I had considered buying it. But, after skimming through it in the store and realizing that it wasn't the developer commentary I was looking for, I dropped it back on the shelf...

I could say something...

But then i would be a pirate.

And my post is case for why that definition of pirate is ludicrous, since it is physically impossible to cost those who hold the copyright a dime.

Got my book when it was first released for about £25 or something like that. Still in perfect condition. :)

Evil, evil people!

They still own all of the rights to the book and its contents. Hence copying the book would be piracy.
