I -AM- the Kwisatz Hadarach! (very mild spoilers possible)

I was wondering if anyone else started to develop a Messiah complex as they progressed through the game.

In the beginning, all the fanfare of my arrival (as Gordon) inspired this reaction from me: "Silly proletariats, thinks I'm a Messiah, how cute".

But hearing it over and over, and seeing the reaction of countless civies to my presence did something to me psychologically. I realized this, when I was a little slow on the jump putting my buggy in the garage on Highway 17 (just before the gunships).

One of the militia standing nearbye got really snippy about how long it was taking me to stowe the car. And the tone offended me. I suddenly found myself thinking "Who do YOU think YOUR talking to??? I'm DOCTOR MORGAN FREEMAN DAMMIT!" (of course I'm speaking in the context of the game... i'm not some wack job who doesn't go back into the real world when I power down steam.)

I was wondering if anyone else had similar experiences with the game?

Yeah.. there was one bit in C17 when I was shooting some stuff and had a squad in tow.. and I thought briefly to myself "this will impress them!"

Heheh I felt the same way. In the end when you go down that elevator to go kick Breen's ass, and Alyx is all like "Do your worst, Gordon," I thought, "Yeah YOU bitches are GOIN' DOWN!!"

I soooooo want to develop a game where there's actually a "cult of personality" engine, depending on how you play the game you gain or loose followers. And based on thier individual personalities the engine makes them react to you with actions ranging from: averting eyes, saluting and genuflection to the converse: hostility, mockery or condescension etc.

Of course nothing made me feel more powerfull then being a naked baby shooting hearts at things. Oh, and drying up water, I ROCKED at that!

I kid, I loved Actraiser and still play it on an emulator.

Fable is a perfect example of the 'cult of personality'.

Peter Molyneux is my developer idle (sorry Gabe), but that was all down to Populous and Syndicate. Anyone who can make games like Polpulous -on his own- from his own bedroom is a god in my eyes.

I didn't quite get the messiah complex until after the crowbar.

I got the 'I'm god and you shall recieve the full ends of my unholy wrath!"

when I got the physcannon and started ripping computer terminals off the wall and grabbing once-lively bodies from squads and using them as shields.

The original Populous way back in the early 90s was all Molyneux. Populous 2 (his second project) was just three people I think.

I thought, "This is all a head-game...Alyx, Eli, the resistance members...they are trying to play me! Poor little insignifigant AI! I shall show them!"

Then I got to the end, and the one and only says his deal, and i thought, "Dude! I just got played! What the **** happened to the ending? Where'd it go? Do I gotta play it on hard?"

I replayed the game. On hard.

Guess what?

I got played. Where's the rest of the game?

I remember this one time.. When a few combine soldiers fell back to reload. I got the "Yea that's right you better run" kinda feeling. :|

I'm pretty sure everyone felt something like that during the game. Anyone who really tried to enjoy the game, at least. But what I'm wondering is why noone else had used the HEV suit. If Barney had picked it up, he could've been the hero.

Yeah... at some point as someone sais something in the lines of "Well done!" (I think it was at the point where the Vortigaunt teaches you how to use the Pheropod), I thought (And, IIRC, also said out loud ^^): "Well, yeah, what did you expect? Of COURSE I've done well, man, I'm GORDON FREEMAN"

Nah, the best bit for Messiah complex there was the Vortigaunt saying "Once more, the Freeman excels at all things!".

Which, you know, is good for the self-confidence...

I think Freeman is more like John Connor(Pre T3 which was a cash in)

I'll be helping the resistance members fight off some Combine attack, and I'll be spouting off my thoughts since I'm into the game too much to think of keeping them inside. I'll be yelling "Good thing I don't actually need you nubs! *yes..nubs*" Or - "Good thing Valve is saving your life you Bastards, or I woulda capped you so long ago!" I just hear my roomates busting up and I start to get confused before I realise

Whenever I completed a level I looked back and thought about how much ass I kicked, and then thought: "These guys better idolize me, because I am the unstoppable Gordon God!"

But I never felt quite like the Messiah until I got the blue weapon of doom in the end. I would think: "Feel my wrath, you mortal Combine horde! I am The One! I am INDESTRUCTIBLE!!! I AM LEGION!!!! DIE! DIE!!! DIE!!! MUAHAUHAUHAUAHUAHUAHXUAHSUAHUNAMXUAHUANUAHA MAUAHUAHUAHUAHUAHUAHUAHUAMUAHUAHUAHUAHUAHAUHUAHUAHUAHUAHUAHAUHUAHAUUAHHUA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Yes, the game was very immersive.

One particular time in the game just before you reach the "horse statue" and the citadel, there's a bunch of striders and combine soldiers running about, I kept hiding trying to figure out a way to kill them, until this badass track kicked up and I realised that I was Almighty Go(r)d(on) and just ran out and started firing and throwing grenades at them, mentally yelling "Let's get it on, foo's!"
