I am Well and Truly Stuck

Friends I am well and truly stuck.
I am on Highway 17 and I have gone under the railroad bridge all the way down to the other end - I pulled the plug on the forcefield in the room and then shut down the forcefield (I thought) on top of the bridge. The monitor on the display in that room says that it is not on. I then went all the way back under the bridge - got back in my buggy, raced down the railroad tracks to the other end, beating the train - but when I go to enter the tunnel - the forcefield is still up. I have gone back under that bridge several times to check everything I can think of (I can do top speed running under that bridge by now I tell you) and can't find what I've missed? I've searched the top of the bridge...can anyone knock some sense into my head about what I'm missing?

I think you're stuck on this part...

7.11: Force field is up on the train tracks.
- Turn it off. Go to the houses and go down the cliff underneath
the bridge. Trail the bridge and go to the other side and turn off
the force field. Kill all Combine and then return. It's not an easy
job but someone's gotta do it.

7.12: I'm still blocked off.
- There's a path between the train cars. Hit it and ends the level.

You don't need to go into the opposite end of the tunnel. You drive rather near the end, and then go left (IIRC) between the train cars.

That should have been pretty damn obvious, i worked it out first time playing the game
