Definition of Avoidant Personality Disorder:
This explains why all your advice had no effect on me. I knew I was abnormal, and you people did not believe me. According to a pamphlet I grabbed at my psychologist's office:
The problem is that I don't like that prognosis. This "sensitive personality style" basically means I will be a loser even if I find a cure for my current problem. I want to be outgoing and extroverted, I want to date women.. Is it unrealistic of my part to think that I can find a cure to my problem without psychological help? From what I read, psychology does not have much to offer.
"The APD has the real self in hiding - hiding from an original environment or internal objects that were traumatic, rejecting and abusive. Due to early original pain, the adult APD cannot separate the present from the past, so everyone and everything becomes potentially dangerous and filled with anxiety and fear. As such, the deep core self, reality and everything that can trigger early pain is avoided."

"while individuals with Avoidant Personality Disorder can fantasize about becoming an outgoing, confident extrovert, the development of a more functional version of their basic personality traits can lead to a substantial improvement in the subjective experience of the quality of their lives. The more functional personality style of the avoidant personality disorder is the "sensitive personality style." These individuals are comfortable with the familiar, stay close to family and a limited number of friends, care what others think about them, are cautious and deliberate in dealing with others, and maintain a courteous, polite interpersonal reserve."
