this is going to sound crazy but, HL2 and the vibe that it's portraying is so unbelievably cool to me that it's really hard for me to take other future games seriously right now...am I the only one who feels like this? I don't care about doom3's shadowing or engine, and I've seen the videos of stalker which as much as those screens look great, the game in action looks like shit...the only other game I'd have to say looks even remotely as cool as HL2 is F.E.A.R.....no other game looks as good to me, or as compelling...is this weird?

No, but I still have an interest in other games. Like BattleField 2 and Joint Operations: Escaltion (Typhoon Rising's expansion).

I felt the same way until I read the Morrowind Oblivion preview on Gamespy and shit my pants

I'm still awaiting some...
Elder Scrolls IV
Unreal 3
Quake IV

stalker will be really special, who knows, maybe quite better than hl2

and yeah Q4

But they're ages away so it's hard to get that interested. I think it's a pretty quiet time for FPS PC fans.

Yep, FEAR and STALKER are the only other games that look as innovative as Half Life 2, in my opinion.

That doesn't, however, mean these are the only game I'm looking foward to...

played the alpha version of stalker, and unless theyve totally made over the game, its just another lame shooter

If only Far Cry 2 was in the works.
But for some reason, Ubisoft isn't going with the '2' in the title trend, they usually give subtitles instead of calling it [Insert game name here] II/2, the give it a subtitle.
So, it's probably going to be Far Cry: [Subtitle]
Damn, Far Cry was fun. Lasted long and it was hard, even on the easiest setting.
Did I mention that it was fun and hard?
Half-Life 2 better be better.

Using this rationale, I could see someone swearing off HL2 based on the code leak. Incidentally, I played the same "alpha" you did and my conclusion was: "this has potential."

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is most probably going to rock your freaking FACE when it comes out, but don't let that stop you from hating it.

I doubt you're ever going to see Far Cry again in any way, shape, or form. CryTek signed a contract with EA to work on a game for them which means that EA will suck away all of their time with nothing for Ubi and the Far Cry franchise.

Kind of like the leaked "beta" of hl2.

I totally agree with you.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
;(

The only problem I see with STALKER is just how ambitious it is. STALKER has the opportunity to be a truly "revolutionary" gaming experience (more so than HL2).

However, the developers don't have a proven track record and the sheer scale of what they've set out to accomplish means that if any of those elements don't work just right, the entire game might be mediocre.

I really do wish GSC the best of luck though :)

Fear is made by monolith.... so it will be good.
Stalker looks promising. Dont forget, theres still a TF2 announcement to be made after HL2's release. It'll probably blow us away.

at that time, i thought the same thing. Months later i feel differently after playing some of the games that have been released since then. its nothing ground breaking, but then again i know nothing about the storyline or objectives. I predict itll be just another shooter

I saw some gameplay videos of Pariah and was not very impressed. It looked quite generic and uninsipired. Hopefully that will change as it moves along the development process.

I'm waiting for Epic to announce something...especially something with the new Unreal Engine 3.0.

ive played a few alphas, and i dont think ive ever been impressed with the content - only with the potential

They said their next game would be a RPGFPS I think... And it wouldnt be Unreal related.

There's another FPS coming out later this year called Project: Snowblind. It was originally to be called Deus Ex: Clan Wars but they changed the name after the disappointment of DX:IW.

I must say I'm not impressed - these graphics would have looked great in 1999/2000 but not in 2004/2005. I guess that's what happens when you develop a game for the PC, Xbox, AND PS2 at the same time.

But I also remembered reading an interview that I found on www.planetunreal.com that Midway would be working on the next two titles in the Unreal Tournament series...
Just wait and let me find it.

Edit: I found it.

As a result of the partnership, Midway will be granted the worldwide publishing rights for three products in the Unreal franchise. These products include Unreal Championship 2 for Xbox and the next two versions of Unreal Tournament for the PC.

Monolith has made some hillarious games. I heard somewhere, I think it was Game Informer that it was using the Source engine. Not sure though..

^^^
I think you're a bit confused. FEAR is being made by Monolith; STALKER is being made by GSC.

And FEAR is NOT using the Source engine, it's using a proprietary engine developed by Monolith :)

And if you'e ever seen the 15 minute video for FEAR from Gamespot, you'll see that there is absolutely nothing humorous about this game. It looks to be more terrifying than Doom 3 or Aliens versus Predator.

Monolith has been known to use great engines by LithTech.
You can kind of tell that they're related because of the 'Lith'.

Stalker and FEAR look amazing, but dont forget Brothers in Arms. One more game to roxor your boxors.

Still. HL2 will pwn all, I am sure :)

Oh yes, I'm very much looking forward to BiA.

It looks like a slower-paced, more tactical World War 2 game. Kind of like Ghost Recon set in WW2! :)

I'm looking forward to Battlefield 2, GTA: San Andreas, Max Payne 3(?), and...Idk right now, I can't think of anything else..

HL2 may well be the greatest FPS ever, but Oblivion will definitly be the greatest RPG to come out for many moons and so i equally share an intense expectation in both games. Stalker looks badass, but I saw the trailers and i gotta agree it does look pretty bad graphics wise.
