I don't believe I've ever HATED a popular game.

I hate when someone hates a game because he thought it was a console exclusive, and then it comes out on PC. Such a childish behaviour.

Thats called a port, and ported games usually warrant their being hated.

Popular games by reviewers or actual players?

If it's reviewers, I disagree with a lot of reviews. I think its rare for me to agree with reviews by the gaming press.

For actual players, the only game that I can think of is Halo 3. (Next 2 sentences edited to prevent flame war). Now granted, I am smart enough to stay away from games that are not of my genre preference.

I know this one dumb ****er who got Mass Effect, played Eden Prime, got up to the hill near the excavation site, tried to open the OPTIONAL building, failed ONCE, and quit the game for good!! God when I head this after beating the game several times I just wanted to ****ing rip his balls off and and make him eat it.

I used to hate ms. pacman but she called and we talked it out.

It seems like everyone on this site hates at least one popular game, be it Ocarina of Time, Halo, Goldeneye, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, etc. I've never experienced this. I've been fairly indifferent to a few popular games (Halo 2/3) but I've never outright hated a popular game. I can't even relate.

Am I alone?

Oh I've...never hated a popular game....ever....not at all *kicks post's about Assassins creed under bed* no I love all popular games....really.

I don't like Halo very much at all ... but I don't hate it. It just isn't very good. Some of the dumb****s that adore it make me want to hate it though, and the fact that it's so gloriously overrated.

Its mostly this that makes me hate games more than the games themselves. Like people telling me i must be shit as said game if i didn't enjoy it as much as them. Thats really annoying.

Also most games these days can be termed "popular" games because of all the advertising and hype they have. Few games come out in this day and age that don't have a hype train following them.
Also noteworthy is that there are plenty of "under-hyped" games out there too with little to no advertising, but still was a great game.

Shadow of The Colossus is one of these games imo. Also note I said imo, not everybody's gonna like a certain game as others do, regardless if it's GTAIV or not. ;)

...and yes, there are plenty of people out there that hate the half-life series too, as well as every other Valve game. :p

Well for me they'd be split up in 2 categories:
Games I've heard of but don't care about (I haven't actually played them), and games I don't like (that I have actually played).

So:

Games I don't like:

-Battlefield series
-Quake Wars & Quake 4
-MOHA: Pacific Assault
-Starcraft
-Empire Earth 2,3
-Halo 1
-Stalker
-SOF Payback:sleep:

and others I can't remember right now...

Games I don't care about:

-Halo 2,3
-GOW
-MGS series
-Team Fortress 2
-Mass Effect
-WoW
-Oblivion + evevry other RPG ever created
-Thief series
-Mario Galaxy

I hate:

Brothers In Arms
Halo series
Battlefield 2142
MX vs. ATV Untamed*

*popular among motocross riders

I think the majority of people (atleast around here) who say they 'hate' a popular game don't really hate the game itself, just the fact that it's popular while other superior (in their eyes) games are less so. Halo being probably the best example of this in the context of these boards. I don't think many people would argue that it was actually an awful, badly designed game, just that it was perhaps shallower and less inspiring than other games in the genre - for example Half-Life. So really they only 'hate' it in comparison to other, similar games which they love. Maybe... that's the way I see it, anyway.

Oh, but there are certain popular titles for which hatred is entirely reasonable. For example, 50 Cent: Bulletproof was popular enough to warrant a sequel, and that's... that's just wrong. Of course I've never actually played it, but it's pretty detestable on principle alone.

I hate Zelda and Final Fantasy. Stupid RPG-eque elves and whatnot going round in slow motion killing goblins and dark wizard guys. There, I said it. And I hate the proper Pokemon games like Ruby/Sapphire because they have no replay value at all. Once you beat it, there is literally nothing to do, just battle which is the worst and most boring part of all Pokemon games. The last time I played my Diamond was, what, 6 months ago? I hate GTA, it's just you're some guy terrorising the city which sounds cool and then they make it stupid by adding strip clubs.

I hate Final Fantasy and similar JRPGs as well as any game with turn-based combat (some exceptions can be made; I'm willing to give KOTOR and Fallout a second chance, but I'm done with Civilization and that stupid combat in Baldur's Gate to name a few)

There are a few games that i just cant play. Devil May Cry series is just out right boring, Ninja Gaiden games are just retarded. I liked Halo 1, 2 was eh, and 3 had some interesting parts.

I can't say I do. Not hate like I hate...racists, for example!

There are a few games that i just cant play.
Thats me, & I must be close to 100% in appreciating why people like the one's I can't/won't play.

I don't play a lot of games outside of the HL2-universe, so I wouldn't know.

Far Cry has been pretty popular, not on the scale of say HL2, Halo, CoD4 etc, but popular nonetheless. I loathe it though. It is just awful in my opinion and I can't stand it when people call it the pinnacle of FPS's. It's just GARBAGE.

The random gamer who liked the graphics of Crysis and didn't understand anything else and therefore assumed it was the best game ever. He then wikid Crytek and found out that they had made a game before that and assumed it was the best ever.

Hate list:
Kingdom Hearts(Doesn't make any ****ing sense and the gameplay is boring.)
Most final fantasy games.(Tactics was okay.)
WoW.
SWG Post-NGE.
Lost Planet single-player.(Multiplayer is fun.)
WoW.
Them Mexicanos.

bingo.

Lost Planet single-player.(Multiplayer is fun.)
I forgot about Lost Planet...thats the closest I've come to really hating a single player game in a long time. So many things about it are just absurdly difficult for no discernible reason. I spent enough time being repeatedly knocked down, standing up, and then being knocked down again to take years off my life.

ya, that game does suck $^&@ for nickels
