Theres a big difference comparing HL 2 and Steam. They'll be making profits off of HL 2, not Steam.

So following that logic, you are saying that because Valve isn't making profit off of Steam, they choose to fail to meet stated release dates and then don't inform the users of the delay until after the the scheduled time has come and gone.....

But because they will make money off of HL2, they will approach the situation in the complete opposite way. Sorry, but I haven't seen anything that shows me they are treating HL2 any different.

Besides, where do you think that Valve is going to make the majority of their money following the release of HL2? Thats right, over Steam....

Lets look at the Steam release, Valve's most recent release, as an indicator of their ability to meet deadlines or set release dates.

Valve announces that they will be releasing the final version fo Steam on 09/10/03 at 11:00AM PST.

09/10/03 - 11:00AM PST - Comes and goes with no word as to what is going on. Hours later, they state that they are postponing the release until the following day, same time.

09/11/03 - 11:00AM PST - Comes and goes with no word as to what is going on. Hours later, 13 in fact, Valve releases Steam.

Come on people, this is how Valve works.....

Don't expect any status updates and don't expect delay announcements until after the 30th has come and gone.

You can't use one example for all of their products.

And I think there's quite a difference between Steam and Half-Life freakin' 2.

Majority of the sales are going to be made by casual gamers, who have never even heard of Steam. Retail will still majorly dominate on-line purchases.

Read my followups. What else has Valve done besides Half-Life? All of the retail mods and patches right? And how do you think those were handled? Aren't you the one using Half-Life meeting its deadline as just one example? I am telling you, a company doesn't change the way they operate overnight. This is what they have been doing for the past 5 years.

true

Thats very ture...something this big....they would of said that Hl2 is delayed at the beginning of sept or even last week...but no....who knows.... :E
