I think everybody should realize this one is completely new.
As to my senses, I can't recall having seen this one ever before.
All we got of the citadel was that piece we saw in the coming soon teaser.

Seen it a while ago, infact, I think it may have been Samon who gave it to me. This version is more detailed but, I think, a bit darker.
 
Is that the tiny bit of the core I can see towards the bottom of it?
 
According to my PMs, I was sent that exact pic by Oveja Negra on November 23rd, 2006....
 
So Citadel got blew up to pieces...cool. I really love how there is parts of it all around. And we now see what C17 is from air, yes there is crappy air view from citadel but it sucked.

That image was PM:ed around last year. Although this ones much darker. I thought it was concept art, but is it ingame?
 
from an purely optical standpoint, totally reminds me of crysis, those spires clinging in the city make it look much more alien than the actual combine architecture.
 
If that's the actual skybox... damn, those trees are pretty.

As it has been months since the publication of the mag in question, here is the art everyone remembers

Looks significantly different yes? My guess is the one at the start of the thread is the in-engine implementation of the original, postered concept art. Nice stuff (until you zoom in on with the HEV suit I suspect). Hope with visit that Citadel chunk :)

edit: perhaps one of the reasons for HL2EP2's delay is that the entire visual style has changed to accomodate the fact that the citadel's explosion is blocking out the sun? The gameplay videos seemed to show an unnaturally clear-skied countryside (this would be similar to how HL2EP1 evolved.)
 
In the orginal one (orginal meaning the thread starter post), towards the bottom of the citadel, you see some blue. Do you think thats the remainings of the core?
 
Is that large, blistering thingymagic near the camera a tree, or...?

that's a still from one of the ep2 trailers i think
