i emailed gabe about chris hacking into the gman video and finding the docks video ill make sure to post what he says once he emails me back

Uhh..Chris emailed him already. You shouldnt email things like this, Chris can handle it since hes the one who found it out.

woo sorry jeez i didnt know he already emailed him so nvm then im not tryin to make it sound like hes "evil"

OMG CHRIS IS A HAXERRR LETS REPORT HIM

if valve cared that people are extracting the videos, they simply wouldn't have had you download them early.

what's happening is steam downloads the video about a day before valve lets it show up on the menu.

Thats so you get instant video the next day and you go "wow, how did they do that?"

But seriously, did they really expect to put a video on our hard drive's and not let us watch it? :)

It's very nice of Valve to do this.

It's as though the community is one step ahead for the video's. :D

Maybe it was to make up for yesterday? Like have them release 2 tomorrow officially or something?

I e-mailed Gabe and Erik about it but no reply. I was going to keep it all quiet from you, not to be a ****, but just because I felt an exploitation of Valve like that wasn't nice. But then the other Chris figured it out too and announced it so I thought I might as well give support.

Were were not exploiting Valve. It's not like we hacked into the steam servers or anything, the videos were already on our hard drives, and they were not even encrypted or anything. There is no reason why I can't view what somebody puts on my hard drive.

True... anyway :D It's good to see all of you happy!!

:bounce:

haha, so true :p :p

Eric Johnson said something on monday about them accidentally releasing extra stuff. I bet they did it on purpose though cause they wanted to see if ppl will try to hack through their files and see what they will be able to come up with.

Nah, I don't think they expected us to hex edit a 400 MB file .. LOL. It almost crashed my computer, I had to reboot after that. 400 MB file, 384 MB ram .. not good. :)

Lone, next time use program called AXE 3, there you can open huge files and your comp doesn't use so much RAM.

I certainly tried to the second I heard about the fact that they may have released something they didn't mean to. The only thing that stopped me is that I only have 128Mb of RAM and the file couldn't load into memory. Since I didn't feel like going through it in chunks with cygwin I just gave up and was hoping for someone else to find something which they surely did.

Thanks Mr.Reak

BTW, tomorrow when I load steam is it gona crash or something? Or will it download all the videos again? Maybe I should I restore the old file from backup?

I restored my backup after I got bink file into media folder, just for sake of it.

you expect to play HL2 with 128mb of ram ?

I didn't need to restore anything to after getting the Docks-video out. the next day when I started Steam, it just downloaded the (released) Docks-movie and everything was normal...

...of course then I just had to get the Keliner-lab-movie, and now there's only the first Gman-vid in the Steam-list :D
