It's been 4 months since I started playing guitar and I've finally done it! I can now play all the solos from the song Fade to Black. Go me :). Anyways, now that I've got those down I have to master the rest lol.

Good job man! I don't play solos myself... I just don't like them. But congrats because I've learned a couple (sabbath) and they are damn hard to get down.

Woah, dude, that's pretty impressive... I mean, four months? Like you had never played a guitar before? How long do you play in a day?

Holy Shit. At speed?? ALL of them?? In 4 months?? Hi Jimi Hendrix Jnr. ;)

I play upwards of 5-6 hours a day :o . Yes, I can play it at the same speed Kirk does. I'm in middle of completeing the Master of Puppets solos right now.

Thats dedication for you... I would have liked to have stuck with the guitar. Obviously not enough though.

I can play the fade to black solo in the begginning till it gets to the really fast part. I never really tried to learn that part cause I dont really want to learn it.

I been playin about a year now. Congrats dude, I learned the master of puppets solo, very easy and very cool

My most proud solo I can play is Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd

Other solos I know

Could Have Lied-Chili Peppers
Hotel California-Live Accoustic and recorded Electric versions
Parts of the Unforgiven-Metallica
Master of Puppets-Metallica

I dont work very hard on playing other songs because I put 90% of my focus on music theory so I can make my own. The boringness of it really paid off cause now I can make my own solos that actually sound pretty good at the snap of a finger when jamming with someone. I can also make my own for my own made up riffs and songs.

But 5-6 hours a day is impressive, keep it up. Trust me learn a ton of theory and you will thank me because you obviously have the technique down so once you get the theory part it will be a peice of cake for you! If ya need any help pm me! Even though your probably better than me lol

Yeah, I'll learn music theory later. Anyways I'm already learning what frets sound good together. I spent about two months working on left hand speed and accuracy so it's easier to navigate.

thats a terrible start. You NEED to learn what NOTES sound good together. If you think about it FRET wise you will be so ****ing screwed. No joke, you gotta get numbers outa your head. I wish I did this when I started and now Im paying for it. Because you absolutely need to memorize where each note is, instead of saying 9th fret and 10th fret you need to say B and C. Put your finger somewhere and say what note it is not what fret it is. Without counting it or thinking. Thats the hardest part for me right now.

The reason wont make sense but maybe it will.

THe reason is is that when you are playing a solo, you need to know the triad of the chord in the backrgound. Assuming you know the triad you then need to hit one or all of the notes in the triad when it comes up, or while its already up.

In layla by clapton, that last bend in the intro, he knows he is bending into the new chord so it sounds good. But play that note behind a diffferent chord and it wont sound so great.

So thats why you need to know each note, not only that but when your moving your scales to different keys it will help you too. Trust me, no frets, just A B-C D E-F G

Well that's why I said I'll learn it later. I'd rather learn how to play it first then move onto theory. One more thing, I don't think it will be hard to learn the note names at all either. It's not that difficult.

Congradulations. Playing the guitar isn't very easy.

Theory is important, I know some good players, but just ask them what chord or note they just played and they don't know.
