I just wanted to share. It's exactly the gun I wanted and was worth the wait and $. It made it to the FFL/dealer the same day my first son was born but I obviously didn't pick it up then as my son is WAY more important. I had money set back for it when I ordered it.
It is a "Rock River Arms Elite Commando" 5" 1911. I specified no front cocking serrations, 30lpi checkered front strap, 30lpi main spring housing, Heinie Slant Pro rear sight with tritium capsule insert, dovetail front sight with tritium capsule insert, and Black T finish. I also specified how I snug I wanted the bushing fit. I added a pair of "VZ Black Paper Micarta Operator" grips. The Blac T finish added $200 but it is teflon based so it has a natural lubricity to it making it more reliable if ran without lube than a parkerized or blued gun would run dry. I would never not use some grease or oil though.
Custom 1911's are expensive but for a reason. Every part is hand fitted by a professional pistol smith. The parts are made only from bar stock steel or forgings so they will not wear or break any where near as fast as cast or m.i.m. parts found in many production 1911's. Rock River Arms guarantees this particular model will shoot 10-shot 2.5" groups at 50yds. That is phenomenally accurate for a pistol. They use Federal Gold Medal Match Semi-Wad Cutters for this. The test target included has a 10-shot 2.25" group. There's know way I can shoot like that but it is nice knowing what it can do in the right hands. Also they are designed to run reliably with Semi-Wad Cutter bullets which is about the hardest shape of bullet to have a gun reliably feed. As a result it can eat just about any bullet shape or type I throw at it.
Anyways it is more than I could have hoped for. It cost right at $2k with the Black T finish and VZ grips. I decided I'd rather have quality over quantity and sold half my pistol collection to pay for most of it. I just wanted to share. Here she is:
