No, not really. I haven't finished yet, but I have read couple of people finishing in about 8-10hrs.

Ok......... I have played for 3hrs yesterday and not even finished the first chapter. And trust me I have not looked around and explored just shootem' and proceed. I don't know how they do it.(perhaps god mode?)

I don't know maybe the other chapters are smaller but I have read from some reviews that each chapter should take about 3-4 hrs.

i've played it for about 9hours and i dnt think i;m near the end

If you rush though and not bother actually looking around, then you can beat it in about 11 hours or so.

There arent alot of FPS' that last longer than that though.

You dont even get a gun on the first chapter, unless you mean the canals, which consists of more than one chapter.

I finished in 14 hours, thats pretty average for games these days (at least from my experience) the difference here, is it never got boreing for me, it was a constant cinematic action fest with loads of variety, most games just become dull after about 8 hours.

I've played for a total 7-8 hours perhaps, and I'm in Ravenholm.

there are 15levels right (when you choose new gam you get a list of chapters) and i'm in 12 after about 10hours :s...i think i'll have to play it a second time :d

then maybe it's possible. I thought those were episodes. heck.....then I don't know what chapter i'm in.

(spoiler do not read!!!!!!!!)

then what chapter is the airboat? if that is chapter 3- then maybe then it is possible to complete in 8hrs.

opps! haha

Took me 10 hours on easy, little less on normal (seeing as I knew what to do by then), and bugger me if I'll bother with hard...

Yah, and then these people come onto the boards and complain that the story was crap.

EVERYONE, want to see a crap story? Go get FarCry! LAMEST ENDING EVER.

15 hours for the first time, now I've been replaying actually looking around and I have an estimate of around 17 hours to be spent on this.

I can't even get to the end of far cry. I cant seem to survive after going down the waterfall on the second to last level. with no ammo, one trigen or another always brings me down before I can get to a gun or open water.

But for hl2 - I've been playing it a lot, not keeping track of hours. I always take a long time to finish a game, simply because I'm a perfectionist. I always re-do a section if I think i've taken an unacceptable amount of damage or used too much ammunition (especially with the amount allowed in hl2). I've prolly played 8-10 hours and I'm on highway 17 still.

I'd rather a 10 hour game that entertains me from beginning to end than a 20 hour game that bores me after 6 (Doom 3, I'm looking at you!). It really is about quality over quantity.

That said, Half-Life 2 can be played at whatever pace you want to play. If you want to take your time and explore, goof around with the physics, write your name in walls with bullet holes, there's really nothing stopping you. If, on the other hand, you want to race through from beginning to end in a single 12 hour session, you can do that, too.

Personally, I'm taking my time to explore and see as much as possible the first time through. And I plan on doing the same the second time as there are tons of things I've undoubtedly missed.

i agree with most--do what pleases. i'm just wondering if it was possible to finish a game in 8 hrs without any cheats, and if so was the game that small? I guess it is possible; it all boils down to how you play.

I will slow down and enjoy the game instead of trying to finish without getting any substance from the story or the appreciation for the source engine. I did that in HL and didn't get any enjoyment from it and the fact that I played 2-3 yrs after it came out. (which was in a way "outdated" compared to games I was playing at that time)

I finished it in 10 hours. 6-12 tuesday and 6-10 on wed.

edit: going back over the weekend to try to finish it on hard and see all the sites. - then it's on to WoW retail.

Is there a way to find out how long you've played for? I find it weird how so many people seem to know how long they've taken :/

I don't know really how I got through it in 8 hours without cheating. I never got stuck at any part. It was just smooth sailing all the way through. I talked to all the NPCs I saw but I didn't do much gawking at the details; firstly because I knew exactly what the graphics and physics had to offer, so I didn't need to take the time to stare at anything. Secondly, when I play a game I try to get into the mindset of the main character. Gordan wouldn't spend 20 minutes wasting ammo into the water, or shooting barrels around, or throwing beer bottles at the homeless.

I played on normal, no cheats completed in 17hrs over 2 days, but I took my time over many portions. I'm just about to go back and beat it on hard- and thats the first time I've ever been back to a game within 24hrs of finishing it. It's also the first time I've not been bored while playing thru-except for a couple of points on the driving bits, but even these were nicely broken up at the right times.

In all honesty; I can say I've never felt so involved in a game (except for fireant when I was about 5:p )

Obviously, now I look up and read that last statement, I feel a bit of a tit and a saddo.... but damn it I am who I am:) And now I leave you, so that I may go get involved again (and try and find every easter egg/G-man sighting/everything(!)

P.S- any news on half-life3 yet :cheese:

16 hours. And that was just zipping through some of it instead of fighting. Like on the airboat levels and such. It's nice to see some content and depth for a change.

on my second way through, im on 3 hours and just got in Ravenholm. But I'm working on a half-life 2 project.....so I'm trying ot soak up all the action with some screenshots :D

ive been playing,2+3=5 hrs, i just got the manipulator, and dog opend that door for me to ravenholm

12 hrs so far on medium, and im stuck in the prison where you have to set your turrets for that huge combine assult....man its tough.
Has anyone played on "hard" yet? just wondering if you get fewer health packs, or more combines, or more hits to kill??

Any how, HL2 is a pretty solid experience.....
