I found the BF2 killer.

I thought all HL2 mods are terrible (especially the betas which are more like pre-alpha state then die out afterwards) except for Black Mesa Forever. I was so very wrong. After spending 2 hours with the Insurgency mod http://www.insmod.net/, I finally made up my mind that this is the BF2 killer. It feels like America's Army yet it's more fun. You can take 2 bullets with some guns while most kill with one shot. So you should'nt go around shooting everybody like BF2. I mainly played the terrorist side and it felt like I was in the battle as a terrorist. You mainly camp out and secure objectives but that's half the battle. You have to conceal and hide your body as well as getting from point A to point B. The graphics look spectacular even if it's a HL2 mod. Some of you out there might be saying "pfft yeah sure. A Source mod that's good? I'm not installing it". You really should though.

While it is'nt as arcady as BF2 with bunny hoppers abound and vehicles, it has a very strong teamplay element to it. The people who populate the servers constantly tell whats going on with VOIP which is great to know. In one instance a sniper was holding us down in a Mosque and we got in a guy with an RPG. Guy shot it off (looked incredibly real like Killzone 2) and cleared the area for us. Also some people put on some Arabic accent which makes you feel like you're there. :upstare: Another neat feature I thought was if you're camping with a buddy and he starts to reload, he will whisper, "reloading", so you know to cover your partner. Has a stat tracker function too.

EDIT: The mod is not nearly a BF killer. The animations make it funny some times.

i agree, its not even close to a bf2 killer. the gameplay is totally different. also i somewhat hate insurgency because of the glitchy movements.

It's got a ways to go, but it's a decent 1st release.

They NEED to fix the class system, it's awful as is. They have to fix the buggy/boxy movement, team balancing, and a lot of other stuff.

The only thing this game has in common with BF2 is the modern warfare aspect. BF2 is a completely different game in every other respect.

Any game is a BF2 killer apart from Big Rigs and Superman 64.

INS focuses on infantry battles whereas BF2 gives you the jack-of-all trades gameplay (helo, jet, foot, tank, boat, etc.)

Personally I prefer the latter.

Yeah, I've been playing BF2 more and more recently....somehow managed my way onto a server with Cave at one time!
