I hear the maps are scaled down into vietnam sized battlefields instead of large WWII landscapes.... anyway I was wondering if its possible to create the large enviorments like the ones in 1942 or possibly bigger without performance loss... or if its even possible at all.. I hope so because the modding community is something I greatly look forward to in battlefield: vietnam

oh and one more question.. will the engine still perform badly when multiple driveables are in a tight space... ie a bunch of cars in a hanger... etc.. I know the physics calculations are cpu intensive but I was wondering if it has had a work around or if a better system is now in use.. although I doubt it

I also wonder if you will feel more immersed as I felt the troop combat feels kind of disconnected in 1942 and not quite as "in control" or connected as an unreal/hl/quake powered game...

Making smaller maps for BF:V was purely a design decision by the DICE team cause they wanted to put more emphasis on infantry combat. Since BF:V is built on an updated version of the BF1942, I see no reason why a modder couldn't create bigger maps.

I don't know about the multiple vehicle lag, but I'm guessing it won't be as much of a problem. The devs said that you'll be able to airlift boats and ground vehicles with huey choppers, with up to 11 people total all traveling together without any hit to the engine or netcode. It's gonna be tight.

I made a quick mod of only about twenty-or-so lines in length that added a bunch of boats and jeeps hanging from the wings of the big plane (I don't remember the name because I uninstalled BF1942 a long time ago) to increase the number of people it could hold.

It was a lot of fun because of the fact that when you hit the throttle on the boats and jeeps they would detatch and fall. It lets you do a low fly-by and drop off a small army of jeeps (with machine guns on the back of them, from someone else's mod) by the enemy base.

After I found that out I increased the explosive power of the boats when they get destroyed (in this case, when they hit the ground) to make them giant kamikaze bombs... which was hilarious on El Alamein. I'm thinking about reinstalling it just to play with that mod.

... but you can't make it so they attatch to a vehicle during the game. They have to spawn attatched to the vehicle. I wonder if they fixed that in BF:V for the helicopter.

They use smaller maps? BF1942 maps was already pretty small.

They werent that small....

What are you comparing them to? Real life?

I should image its the maps like Gazala that the BF:V maps are smaller than.

I'v never heard anyone call El Alamein small.....
As for infantry combat, they seem to have done some major work on it, and the results looks promising. Everyone whos played it and been asked about mentions how much stronger infantry combat now is, since its much easier to hit and be hit back.

Well they werent big. You could fly from one end of EA to the other in a matter of seconds. If we are going to use jetfighters and stuff in BFV, lets just say I see a problem there... And compared to Soldner or OFP they are small :)
But anyway that shouldnt be a problem cause I like small and tight maps. However it would *really* surprise me if they dont allow you to create even larger maps than in BF1942, though the maps in the game wont use them. Most of the BF1942 maps was like this too, very few used maximum size.

I just hope they are good size for my MiniHelo mod :)

Well I think there are reasonable limits for map size, just so you don't have 32 people walking around without seeing anyone. Helps keep the action going. I know Battlefield is capable of some extraordinarily large maps, such as in Forgotten Hope, but often they just aren't fun.

im asking if the new gfx engine will be able to handle bf1942 or larger sized maps, thats all does anyone know... ? :frog:

and YES for the 20329358 times its an ENTIRELY NEW GFX ENGINE!!!

From all the interviews I've seen they think that theres not any evidence to suggest you cannot make maps at least as big as Battlefield, if not bigger. While they did change many things in the graphics engine (they've stated its more of a hybrid between a the old one and some newer stuff) theres nothing in there that would limit map size.
