what happens if you get your ass sued off by the riaa and you just keep downloading?, like f-it I still want free music

Subpoena. A cop shows up at your door with a court calling, if you don't show up, you get in more trouble which can lead to being arrested and thrown in jail.

Double jeopardy, can't be accused of doing the same crime twice....heh.

so the riaa... is the police?

what I dont get, is why you dont just get fined like its against the law... its a suit.. why?

WTF?

so its putting the law on a given individual... like all the sudden your not like the rest its against the law for you to dl music... or you get arrested like the law only really matters after you get sued... my head hurts

THE RIAA IS THE MUSIC COPYRIGHT POLICE OGMA!~@@~!!~! actually, they can't do crap to you if you don't share files, or, if you have that Kazaa Lite IP blocking crap. Or, if you use a proxy, or.. etc etc. Basically, the only people getting caught are the people that can barely turn their computers on. The ones getting sued are the ones that are using the Kazaa that they charge for. How ironic.

You do get fined like it's against the law. They take you to court and sue you.

people paying for stolen music is funny when you can pay for regular music...unless you want your stolen software "faster"

whats with the suit? why not just fine/court or do I know nothing of the U.S justice system (which I dont)

one little question, is the RIAA a government agency?, and isint some of the stuff they are doing to find out whose shareing AGAINST the law for a company

The RIAA is out to make money, they're suing people who download copyrighted music in an attempt to make up for "damages" created by people not buying legit music CDs in retail stores.

The RIAA is in no way affiliated with the government, they're just the head honchos that pretty much control most of the distribution of music in the states (RIAA is an acronym for the Recording Industry Association of America). They use the law as their weapon, if someone DLs copyrighted music, and gets caught, the RIAA goes and wants to make up for those horrible, horrible "damages" caused by the offending song(s). The result is you being subpoenaed with fines upwards to $5,000 or more.

All in all, the RIAA is a corrupt money grubbing company who feels "ripped off" by people DLing songs. (Last sentence is my opinion, I know others disagree and will probably say stuff like "PIRATING IS TEH WROGNAZZZ~~ GO BUY TEH MUZAK")

why dont they go work at burger king or something, stupid crying corporates cant put up with the future im not the "its not stealing its shareing" kind of guy but the RIAA is really stupid.... its just like wer not rich enuf!!!!!!!!!11111oneoneoneon like matallica and there anti piracy fiasco ( i know people who were going to buy latest metallica cd but didnt because of there idiocy and anti piracy crusades... come on how greedy do you get to protest yourself not haveing the six billion a day anymore but just the 4 million you really deserve stars might as well say WTF!?!?! WE WANT TO BE TEH RICH(er) AGAIN!!!!111oneoneon I hope they know there are people that die every day in third world countries and that theres better causes things to do then give money to institutions like the RIAA

Yar, matey! There be nothing wrong with pirating.

Seriously, has anyone seen those gay ads they have before movies in the theater, now? They make it seems like your rotting away at the souls of these men who string up lights, hang tarps for movies. Then it always says "Stop Move Piracy", or some gay shit. Anyway, I just thought I'd ask.

lol, seriously tho the hole anti movie pircacy crap is the most dumb... look how much money you can still make (see lord of the rings) if people want to go the threatres they do!.... again the rich saying omg we lost .1% and have .1% slower income now we actually have to do something and use effort to not get downloaded!!111oneoen

Yeah, I saw the first two movies twice, and ROTK four times.
And I own the first two.

that is a load of crap.......

the guys making 20gs a year will still make there 20gs.......if britney spears and tom cruise have one less ferrari sitting in the drive way...i could care less.....**** em.

Well you would still get in trouble, double jeopardy or not, your commiting the same copyright violation, but its different copyright material. If you keep going, you could end up in jail, or not allowed to use computers or the internet anymore... They do that to hackers I think, it could probably apply here as well.. And I am pretty sure the riaa is going after the share'ers not the downloaders aren't they?
On the issue of "is piracy bad or not" I would have to stay neutral, just take into account, your not only hurting brittney spears, or tom cruise blah blah whatever what about the guy making 20 g or less working at a record store who gets laid off because no one is buying music in there anymore. So its not the million dollar artists who are hurt by this, they still make their publicity money. That doesn't mean i agree with the riaa and the way they are conducting buisness either. Suing (sp?) children is stupid, and privacy is definately not respected here either. Its really a bad deal for both sides I guess. I would like to know where they get 5 to 7 thousand per law suite though, I haven't spent near that much on my music collection in my whole life time..

Babyheadcrap, rather than making a new thread on this you should have posted it in the current RIAA thread.

As far as I can remember you were banned for this before when you used the username alb1221 (sp?). Please don't do it again/

what do the rich need more money for anyways, g.w. just gave them a huge freakin tax cut....

Double Jeopardy doesn't say you can't be convicted of the same crime twice the way you seem to think it does. You can D/L copyrighted music, get sued, they win. They can't sue you again for that incident, however, if you commit the same exact crime AGAIN, they can sue you again.

Let's say I steal your ring, then I get convicted, and you get your ring back. I can no longer be prosecuted for that crime. Say that I get out of jail however, and I come back and steal your ring again, I can then be prosecuted for doing that.

Just want to make sure you have it the right way ;)

you left out the fact that if you ignore a subpoena and avoid police you'll get in more trouble for the same crime without facing anything to do with double jeopardy.

Or if you kill the police officers, then you keep calling the police about police being murdered until you've killed the whole local police department. Then you start reporting a fire at your house, and with all the guns and ammo you get off the dead officers you take out the firemen from your roof.

Then you can get in more trouble without double jepordy comming into play.

Or you could invent a pulse bomb plasma destroyer that deletes the whole planet and no one can say a damn thing.
