60?

Gabe stated that 9700 + all the game function on =at least 60.

9800 can hit 90.

Should've bought the 128mb version, 256 is useless right now. Gratz anyway : )

What’s the point of having a card that can do 200fps? The human eye only sees at (in computer terms) 70fps and after that it’s beyond notice.

Hey dude - you just bought 128 mb of video RAM you don't need! Nice!

Ever think in the long run? no? thought so.

Para in one post you say the extra 128 is useless and in another you defend the purchase? strange. :)

Anyway, grats on the card. I have the 128 and I love it.

Moved to the proper forum. By the way what is the point of this topic?

I agree that in the long run every game will be using 256mb BUT until then, why spend 400$ on a card that will last 2-3 years when you can just buy a 80$ card that will last for 3 years (I’ve had my GeForce 4 MX 420 for 3 years now and haven’t had to upgrade…) so in the long run you’ll have to make one more trip but you spend less money.

I will stick with my “cheap” video cards because I’m cheap and I’ve reviewed both scenarios before buying my “cheap” video cards.

All depends on what games you play.

Your gf4 mx wouldnt even give you playable framrates on low settings at 800x600 in some of todays games.

Why buy an MX and start with a low-end card?
I buy a top-of-the-line card and wait until it starts performing poorly... then I upgrade.
At least that way I have great performance for something like half the life of the card.

With the MX cards it is like buying a card that was fast 2 or 3 years ago.

I would rather spend the extra bit of money and actually have good performance for a while.

I've yet to run into a game that I can’t play with good fps...however.. this doesn’t all depend on your video card to have the best fps, it depends on cpu power, power supply wattage, etc Overall, there are tweaks to boost fps, you can over clock, etc

Just a personal preference.

 Cheers m8 i've got the same system :cheese: also have an asus a7n8x mobo?

Just as a matter of interest, why do people congratulate someone on buying a piece of hardware?

First off, ignore the haters. They're just jealous.

I have the 9800 256 and I love it. It does everything you could want it to and more right now. And when HL2 comes out, you can be it's gonna rule the day.

As for the whole FPS thing, always look ahead and buy the best card you can afford. Sure, it might be able to run something at 70 FPS now, but what about a year from now? That's why you get the better card: foresight.

And yes, movies do run at 24FPS, but I can easily see the difference between 30 and 40 FPS on my system. Don't ask how, cause I don't know, but I can.

FPS is very important for maintaining a believable gaming experience and always will be.

the human eye can see more than 70 fps and even capable of seeing up around 200, there was an indepth article i read a while ago about the myth of the "human eye can only see 30 fps" it was pretty amazing, ill look around for it.

the reason no one minds movies at their 25 fps is because movies are a lot different from games, they use blurring and wut not to give the illusion that its streaming like our human eye.

does somone not like me on these forums?......seems like my posts disapear.....

its actually around about 35fps... but nevermind... if you could see 70fps... you would not be able to watch dvds etc as the TV only runs at about 30fps or so... thats why when u look at monitors and TV's that have been filmed on the news or somehting you see horizontal banding going down it... :p becuase they cameras only record at around 27fps :p

a fountain of total bollocks

When I'm watching a DVD I do notice some things jerking around quite a bit because of the frame rate of the video but motion blurring masks most of the effects of a low frame rate... anyway, I'm not going through the effort to explain this crap again.

Suffice it to say that the human eye does not work in "frames" and people can tell the difference at least up to 70fps vs 100fps.

people probably dont notice the 24 frames per second, because the camera never has to move 180 degrees in less than a half second. If they did make jerky motions like you do with your mouse to spin around and target someone, then they would need a better frame rate. This is not usually the case though, because most films are done with slow camera movement. Thats my guess for the low film framerate.

The bottom line is, if you have the money to blow, go for it, but if your like me and cant afford a 400$ video card every year, then stay with value.

Yeah, nice choice. You still have too much money. Capitolism is ****ing me over hardcore right now it seems.

Hey can't you hack a Radeon 9800 Non-pro to a Radeon 9800 Pro. Something to do with flashing it are something. Anybody know about this?
