What are the rest of your system specs?

[Edit]: Found the original thread you started. 220 Watts is a little on the low side but I think your power supply can handle a 9600 XT. If you get your 9600XT and start experiencing random restarts (during gaming, surfing the web, etc) you will need to get a new power supply.

I think it should be able to run a 9600xt. Go to Sapphire's site, sapphiretech.com and go to the forums, post in the general forums. There's a guy named Yogurt_21, he knows a lot about power supplies, he makes and mods his own. 220w is a little lower, but I think it's a good psu, watts aren't everything. Ask him if you don't get a straight answer here.

Also if i didnt have enough wattage and i added radoen would it blow my hole comp someone please help me? thanks

It wouldn't necessarily blow your comp, it would cause a lot of stability problems though.

If you get the new video card, you should consider purchasing a new power supply as well. At the very least I would suggest a 350W "name brand" and sturdy power supply, or upwards of 450W if you truely want.

To be safe, buy a 300 Watt (or higher) power supply. If you can install a video card or RAM, you can install a power supply.

You can try installing a 9600 XT with your current power supply and see what happens. A typical sign of an underpowered system would be spontaneous restarts. So if you start to experience those, that means you need to get a new power supply.

Like I said above, if you do get a power supply make sure it is above 300 Watts (preferably 350 Watts). And make sure it is from a quality manufacturer (such as Antec, Thermaltake, Forton).

The 9600 series is a fairly power efficient series of cards so anything over 400 Watts is pure overkill. Buying a 400 Watt (or higher) power supply will allow you to keep the power supply when you are upgrading your system. If you buy a 300 Watt power supply today, you probably will have to upgrade it the next time you do a major upgrade.

hey doesnt everything connect to power supply lol? Also its a Compaq Presario 6000 series can i just buy a power supply and it wiill fit in my computer?

Homie, stoop replying to your own posts, you constantly post in strings of 2-3 sometimes 4 posts in a row. You should edit your previous post and add the info you need to, or think harder and make better posts.
