The scans are 100% real.. and it opens up into a 4 page foldout advert for Doom III that reads "A masterpeice of it's artform" -pcgamer on top of the page (and the marine covering the whoel page) the other side has a giant monster gazing at the marine (and it says PAIN SUFFERING DEATH) fold it openm further and the back of the cove/foldout revreeals ITS COMING FOR YOU and a giant pentagram with doom monsters charging at you with id, activiosn, and the m rating. a pentagram in the background spiders floating heads etc. etc.

more comments on the review to come.

Turn out the lights, Get the surround-sound speakers in place, And say godobye to sanity for the next 20-odd hours. The guys at id Software are famous for delivering a game "when it's done" - And we're here to tell you that Doom 3 is not only done, it's mind blowing.

..im willing to type out more but I dont know what the mods would think. Yes guys the issue is real.. (blahblahblah):p

any chance of a oh so subtle hint of where to find some scans...?

I am on subscription... I dont think I would feel too guilty :p

Yeah, thanks for the review. But I'm afraid you're gonna have to remove it sooner or later. Doom3center and Gamespot.com posted that and were contacted by some PC gamer worker himself.

edit: damn, too late

still ...I think I'll wait for more reviews ....I tend to trust reader reviews more than game industry reviews (within reason ...OMG D3 OWNZ JOO!!!!111 is not a review)

ok ok I'll admit it ...I'm scared to play the game ....I dont think my heart can take it ...far cry gave me the heebeejeebee's the first time those monsters were released ...D3 will be 100 x scarier

Haha, I read the whole transcript...now I don't have to wait for my copy of PC gamer to come...

I hope mine comes today. (even though I'm not into doom)

You know what's funny? That faked Doom 3 boxart had a quote from a so called review of PC Gamer on it, saying "Doom 3 is a masterpiece of the art form - PC Gamer" and that was a few days before the review came out. Turns out those words are really in the review.

Hmmm....

Woah there...be careful Marks. I just got threatened by Abom in the other thread for asking something similar.

The bar has been raised way too high - HL2 will fall.

And did you see that they needed a 6800 for max details...I need a super computer now. :(

Nar, I think HL2 will just about match it at the very least.

I mean come on... its HL2!!

How could it possibly fall....

Face it marksman - HL2 would be the greatets thing ever if it had come before doom III. But that last hope has gone - anything that comes after Doom 3 no matter how awesome it looks will look crap - graphically.

You'll see many Hl2 - to - D3 converts within the next month.

But why..?

It got a score of 94% in PC:GAMER.. right?

Well HL1 got a score of 96% :p

I reckon physics gameplay.. vehicles... character interation....

And the mere fact that we get to know more about the HL universe should count for something....

Glad i bought an X800pro for these new games :E...btw, what kind of 6800? a standard, GT or ultra?

Oh, i dont think HL2 will fall...im buying both games for different reasons, fair enough ill probably think "man HL2's graphics are pretty shit compared" but that wont make HL2 a crap game.

i just read that whole thing, sounds intense :D
cant wait!!!

im preordering tommorrow making sure i get my copy on time :D

Though i think its kinda dissapointing for many people as they hear those specs. You need a x800 or gf6800 for max details? For many people it will be a less beter details then, when you own a 9800 pro or something. But what is less better details? I hope not too big differences between it.

And you still have those many many people with even less beter video cards, how would the game run on a gf 4 mx 440 for example? Thats what i have atm ( but soon not anymore :p ) Must be pretty sh*t then

Don't believe PC Gamer when it comes to hardware recommendations... they lie. :hmph:

I mean the bar raised in graphics. Looking at the new D3 scans (my friend showed me), HL2 looks like crap in the gfx department. :(

and a 6800 ultra gave them flawless performance in 1024x768, and they didn't even mention Radeon - the performance was prolly that shitty. :(

Hmm that is kinda disturbing. A 6800ultra.... :x 1024x780.

Im gunna take that in as billy bullshit on pc gamers account, ill wait for what specs Id give...

I'm not sure if this was mentioned here at hl2.net or at a different forum, but it's a good point when concerning the ultra-high specs required to get the highest detail.

Basically what it means is the engine will have prolonged life, say in the next generation or two of cards, the game/engine's graphics will be able to be upgraded and look as good as current games out at the time rather than stuck with the same old graphics which will no doubt look weak in comparison to whatevers out there by then.

Exactly, I've read that a 9800 Pro will only run on medium graphics settings. However, the graphics quality on the medium setting put Far Cry to shame. Its not about running at ultra super high settings, its about how the game looks.

Apparently to run Doom 3 at ultra-high, you need a graphics card with 512 MB of RAM. Of course no such card exists yet. They released Doom 3 so that you can enjoy better graphics if you decide to upgrade at a later date.

Thanks for the info babyheadcrab. ;)

looks like I'll need a new surrond sound system, AND a new rig...

at least I have broadband.

too bad broadband is the last thing you need, since there is no co-op and only 4 player multiplayer ;)

at least my machine should run it now after my last wave of upgrades :p

I think carmack said you will have to have broadband to play Doom multiplayer ... remember each time an object with physics is moved in the level it has to be updated on everyones computer.

I really think you should be able to play doom 3 on "max" (I`m not talking resolutions and AA/AF) at a decent framerate with the "recomended" specs (2.4ghz, 512mb ram, 9800 etc). I can`t see anything holding back those specs, except memory perhaps. If this was a directX 9 game, however, things would be different.

Doom 3's tech is on the level of DirectX 9. It's ARB_vertex_program and ARB_fragment_program is the OpenGL equivalent of PS 3.0 and VS 3.0, with the added bonus of supporting free extensions of features by fellow users. It may not be a true DX 9 game in the case of having a DX 9 compliant card as part of its minimum specs (neither is HL 2), but the engine is as up to date as possible now.

I'm not sure but I recall someone saying that with little upgrading the Doom 3 engine would be superior compared to the Unreal 3.0 engine, because D3 only has lower res textrues and something like that. Unreal3 doesn't have fully dynamic lighting, so D3 has everything that Unreal3.0 has.

Anyway I know nothing about the technology of game engines, maybe some of you know. I'm just saying what I remember some other guy saying :)
it could have been at the PlanetDoom forums.
