This is the second time in this month I've had to reformat my HDD because of this crap, first time my pc got infected through the microsoft activeX applet or whatever and this time it was a plain ol' virus (called win32/parite). What a pain in the ass, it infected all executable files on the HD, meaning I couldn't use any program and couldn't even uninstall them... Took me an hour to format and install Winxp again, now I'm re-installing all the software I had, and updating steam (sigh... it's taking its' sweet time too).

My point is I hate hackers, why do they do this kinda crap? I mean I understand the concept behind it but what's the point when you're not there and you can't see the guy's face when he sees his pc is FUBAR?!!... Where's the fun in it?

Damn them all to hell!

Because they can see the superb job that they have done when people come to forums and post how much they hate hackers..

I don't that's really it, I mean it's not like cheating in a game where you can see instant reactions : |

Hmm well I didn't have a firewall. Doh!

I usually just turn the devil machine off.

A few simple steps can protect you from 99.99% of the crap that eminates out of fat german lamers arses (amongst other trojans and self-installing adware that may or may not also originate in germany)

I don't know why they do it. I guess 90% of the time they're just poking fun at Microsoft vulnerabilities, and the other 10% they're just trying to show how 'leet' they are to other fat german lowlifes.

SP2 should put an end to this though.

There's a big difference but these days it's all shoved under the term 'hacking' ... most virus writers use code stolen from worms etc written by other people, so the majority are nothing better than script kiddies. The good thing being, nearly all of the vunerabilities that these viruses exploit have been patched... so the next generation of viruses will have to find themselves some new exploits - and with SP2 around the corner, they'd better hurry up.

Get a 2nd HD that is outside the case, cram anything important on it and then seperate if from your PC so you can easily back up lost files, I have a whole 2nd 40 gig HD with the exact same stuff as my primary one on it incase of a problem.

1. don't use kazaa.
2. use a firewall (I recommend Sygate Personal Firewall(free) DON'T use zonealarm, whatever you do (****s your network up) )
3. use an anti-virus (I recommend AVG (free) or Norton)
4. use msconfig... ALOT
5. use process list... ALOT
6. don't run executables from uncertain sources
7. use firefox instead of internet explorer (IE)
8. use trillian or another program instead of MSN
9. get the updates for blaster and other big XP updates
10. Don't be stupid
11. Use linux if you want to be 99.999999% safe.

I have been hacked once then i put on my norton fire wall thing on and POW I owend him

lol...good 'ol Shmozadoodle..always going on adventures and getting himself into sticky situations :P

Alot of hackers do it because of the internet groups that they are in. They don't have any friends in real life but their online buddies (all like minded hackers) support and encourage them. As a result they end up enjoying being part of a community by sending out viruses and helping each other write them.

Personally I am more surprised as to why there aren't more hackers that actually try to do some good in the world, I love the idea of an anonymous hacker who roams the internet fixing networks, killing off other viruses, worms, and hacking into the bad hackers computers and shutting them down.

Its too bad there aren't more people like them because then instead of simply waiting and worrying for the next hacker attack we can also wait and hope for the good hackers to come along and do what they can to set things right.

what is a firewall and were I can get it?
cuz in my pc was founded a trojan horse and I am a litle worried
but I think the virus is eliminated

just make an image of your computer when you're done re-installing everything. that way, if you have to format again, all you have to do is put a cd in, and *BAM*, back to normal.

Actually I'm very knowledgeable about pcs, I don't use kazaa, I use AVG and NOD32, I use msconfig & regedit all the time (just fixed the DSO exploit manually a few minutes ago). I disabled all startup applications and I know which process does what. I don't run attachments stupidely I always google strange .exe, I started using firefox since last format. I don't use any chat progs. I always update winxp, I'm not stupid and I hate linux... lol!!!

Point is I'm not a newb, and I really don't know why this crap happened to me... well I do know it's because I didn't have a firewall and that puts the blame on myself, I just didn't wanna say it hehe.

It's actually AVG that picked up the WIN32/parite virus but out of all the .exe files found infected (over 400) it couldn't heal a single one of them. I tried Bullguard and an online symantec scan before deciding to format :(

And by the way thanks for the firewall advice, I've been looking all over for a free one, the free versions of Zonealarm block the network and internet connection sharing and since I'm on a permanent lan with my brother I can't do that (that is also why my pc is on 24/7 - I haven't turned it off in over a year and a half, just reboots.) : [

In the future, these crimes will be punishable by death...

Spreading viruses,
Writing Harry Potter fanfiction,
RPing sick things like horsesex,
Being responsible for spyware.

And I for one am glad!

Actually I use Zonealarm on my network and haven't had a single problem so far, more than I can say about systems with Norton's Firewall on them.
And a side note for anyone interested: a well secured windows box is more safe than an unsecured Linux or Unix one. Just installing Linux is not a silver bullet, you still must know what you're doing.

Some stupid f*ck hacked my forum. I guess that's what I get for not updating to the latest version. His name is "softland.inc". He's pretty retarded. Changing my cats to "Ownted by Softland" no SH*T I'm going to find him if he puts his screen name. I even know his email!

He now has 300 new emails with the subject "Script Kiddie BITCHMOTHER****ERASS****YOUHAVEASMALLPENIS!!!!~~!234411```" and the body "Stupid script kiddie <3 from teh 1337 h4x0r "u have a small penis!""

I love ASP.NET! I can fire off 1000 messages at once. :P

You forgot TK-ing. :O

First of all I am a baby Hacker myself :o......What I would like to say is :

1-Get a firewall (Hardware) or use the software that comes with WindowsXp
2-Always Keep updating your Operating System by visiting Microsoft update page
3-Keep Your AntiVirus uptodate
4-Must run Adware every 2 days with latest uptodate Loaders
5-Don't visit sites which is odd
6-If you are PornKoHolic then visit Porn sites which allow you to view their content without downloading special programs to view them.

Hehe nice going Sub, spam the ****er back to the stone age!

Ive never been hacked...never.

I always maintain my computer
Be sensible

Defrag every 2 days
use a hardware firewall, as well as a software one (Sygate)
Use NOD32

Heh, I do all the same stuff. But I nearlly, very nearly got hacked last night! My computer went slow... then my firewall alerted me. Then my antivirus switched off and then the firewall a few secs later. Then my computer got even slower. Then i pulled the plug on my connection and ran spybot, adaware, nortens and whatever else I could find..

Then I restarted and it was fine. Thank god! :)

Yeah but a good hacker doing something like that won't happen. It'd be like a good person going out and beating up bad people. Good people don't do stuff like that, cuz they know revenge is wrong.

defragging won't help security at all...
even in win 95 you didnt have to defrag every 2 days... wtf are you doing??

True but you don't have to look at it as revenge, most bad hackers will simply continue doing bad things unless someone actively punishes them, even then its only going to delay them from getting right back into their work. So a "good" hacker could simply see it as a way of temporarily disabling their potential to do damage.

Yeah especially since it's not physical damage. Besides the world needs good hackers, to help with network security and AV software.

you'd think he'd at least have the common decency to say get a linux box. the bastard.
