Or the AR2, OSIPR or whatever you call it. I know it's stupid to hate something that is souless, thoughtless, and only exists in fiction, but I do. When I first picked it up after coming out of Ravenholm I thought "Cool the I-Rifle! Now I'm gonna set these bitches on fire!." But the primary fire was just a more powerful and accurate version of the MP7. Then I picked up the orbs I thought again, "Hell yeah, I'm finally gonna set these bitches on fire!" But instead I got a really cheesy and fake looking disentegration effect. Theoretically it would have fit in better with less realistic and more fast paced multiplayer themed games.

So deathmatch came out, after the magnum was nerfed it took it's place as officially the cheapest weapon. People just whored it and with it's automatic fire any noob could do up their score with it. The orb took no skills, you just bounced it against a wall and it will home into anybody nearby then kill them instantly.

This weapon took away the spotlight and use of the MP7. Once you pick it up the former weapon is useless. Who needs a crappy auto gun when you have a good one? It was like a weapon imagined up by a little kid, "My gun has automatic fire, high stopping power and energy pulses that home in and disentegrate people instantly". It replaced the both the OICW and the I-Rifle which were weapons I actually wanted to use. The functions of the former and look of the latter became integrated into this weapon I loathe.

**** the Overwatch Standard Issue Pulse Rifle!

It doesn't home into anybody. And you can counteract it quite easily in DM if you are skilled enough. It's very easy to do. Noobs who whore it end up eating their own.

Edit: It DOES home-in on people every once in a while at random. I couldn't believe it. Just played [VDuS] A Seagull and he showed me. I was amazed. I've been playing DM for so long and hadn't really ever noticed it. :p

shush, go complain in one of the other pulse rifle complaint threads.

If all you complaining people had your way, halflife 2 would be a ghastly mess.

I personally love the disentigration effect. Oh, well I guess opinions are just like....

I liked the pulse rifle except that I could never find enough ammo to do what I wanted with it. I loved firing it but I always felt like I had to be very conservative with it in the game which always bugged me.

I used the search feature and I turned up nothing, with "Hate" and "Pulse Rifle". I thought I was doing something new too. ;(

1. How does it backfire?
2. You never noticed until now? The first time I used it in the Nexus building I wiped out an entire squadron of Overwatch troops by ricoheting it off a ceiling.

It backfires because experienced players reflexively catch the ball in the gravgun and re-fire it.

The bounceback isn't perfect either. It only works on the bounce, making it easy to dodge, and it usually misses anyway. Most people don't notice the effect.

The only thing that bugs me with the assault rifle is that the reload system totally perplexes me.

I thought it looked awesome. :<

Personally I wubs the Pulse Rifle. It's big and accurate and meaty and nasty and in SP it's just really very cool. It's kind of supposed to eclipse the SMG - apart from for grenades I didn't use the latter except for killing enemies I didn't want to waste good ammo on. Same with the pistol in both HL1 and HL2. Anyway, in HL2DM it's not that hard to dodge, you can block the bullets or throw the orbs back with the gravity gun and if needs be you can throw an explosive barrel at them, launch a rocket at them, twat them with a filing cabinet, crossbow them, magnum them...I honestly don't find there's any 'whore weapon' in HL2DM. Not even the rocket launcher really, because if you get the drop on them, kill them before they fire, you can take them down. And if not, they run out of ammo quite quickly.

I've battled many-a players that use these supposed "whore" weapons like the 357, Pulse Rifle, cross bow, rocket launcher. I dispatch them with extreme prejudice accordingly. Counter-Strike, I think, has worse whore weapons (awp, autos) than hl2dm. Even then I can rely on my skill and 5 years experience(Half-Life multiplayer games in general) to be able to counter act that style of play.

Yeah. Thing is, it's so easy to pick up a load of weapons in HL2DM that it's not hard to find the scissors to cut the paper or the rock to blunt the scissors. Not that there's really a particularly strict rock-paper-scissors heirarchy. It always seems to me like any weapon can defeat any other weapon.

In the right hands of course.

The spawn system is more annoying than any weapon whore. They shouldve made it like fear.

I would of prefered an I-rifle or an OICW, I dunno, I hope there's a mod that brings it out, or it gets put into GMod.

The only time the orbs lock on is single-player on easy. And it doesn't render the MP7 useless because you quickly run out of ammo. And what, did you want an assault rifle that was identical to the SMG? And I find the MP7 much more useful in certain situations because of the nade launcher. I would hate to have the OICW after having my lovly pulse rifle because no more power-cores(which I love BTW)

yeah what was up with the weird fumble that the combine soldier did every 10-15 shots?
surely with the size of the the thing at the front of the gun (magazine, breech?)
you should have been able to hold 100 shots?

Valve seem to suck at weapons.

The myterious 18 bullet pistol shot
The invisible magnum speed-loader
The SMG nades that are too big for their launchers. Are bullet shaped but spin and leave a trail but don't seem to be propeled beyond their original launch(and of course that no soldiers use)
Pulse rifle that you pick up clips for that the soldiers re-load but you never have to change bit the one clip you have self re-loads the gun
The impossible double-shotgun blast
Gordon pulls the nades out and pulls the pin. You can then hold the grenade sans pin for an hour, and then click to throw and it still blows up in 5 seconds

Edit: And the infinate bugbait

whats wrong with that other than him getting a cramp?

You pull the pin on a HE grenade and wait for an hour.

theres a thing on grenades to stop them exploding till you let go of it

They are fun to use. **** realism or whatever. HL was the same - and look at the weapons there!

so?
there is a handle under the thumb in the above pic that must be released to arm the grenade

Well, the fact is that Half life 1 weapons were better, more varied, more equilibred(???) and more fun (except for the Gravity gun, of course).

I can't decide wich one is better out of the two SMG's, I think they both kinda suck so I play with grenades and the shotgun.

Who cares about realism? I'd rather have HL2 weapons than some carefully created real life replica.

I think he's just pointing out that there are a lot of amusing inconsistencies rather than actually criticising them. :E

What now?
Hold town the secondary fire for the pistol and then also the primary fire. After a minute realese the secondary

I thought they fixed that 2 weeks after release :p
I still do it to CPs for fun.

And yes, I'm pointing out inconsistancies for the most part (except in the case of pistol and shotgun which wouldn't have been as fun without)

I found a great use for the pulse rifle - you can vapourise a poison zombie and all the black headcrabs on him using the secondary fire. It's trés useful for these scary mofos.

You know what I guess I just suck. I've never been able to grab a moving orb with my gravity gun. Usually the moment I hear or see one it's too late, I tried practicing the move but hitting "g" never brings the gun up quick enough.

I remember actually seeing one person ever pull it off once, people keep saying it like it's an easy procedure like bunny hopping, stacking or rocket jumping but I've only seen the feat once.

i've seen people grab orbs all the time. There've been times when i've caught an orb, thrown it back, then have it caught and rethrown back, a few times.

Its best to use it on people that are completely unaware of you or people that are chasing you. Shooting it down the street in overwatch will usually accomplish nothing.

in some respects though the mp7 is better. Those nades are lot more common, and you can fire them over stuff. and you can't catch them.

Only downside is that some fortuitous shooting can blast a smg nade in your face just as you fire it. I've seen it happen 3x two of which were shotgun fire, one time was mp7 fire.
