I hate to Bring this Up

I know its long past, and im not really supposed to talk about it. But i remember playing the Beta a while ago on the Bank map(in a very early state mind you) an d fighting some Combine. My point is, wilst fighting theeze Combine, I threw a grenade into a Moderately Small room with a few of em in there, and I swear that they tossed the grenade out of the room at me. I was really wierd, because I knew they just didnt throw one, because there was never an explosion inside the room, just the one that nearly killed me that they threw out. Just seems really wierd, although at this point it also seems not worth bringing up, mostly due to the fact that nothing of the sort has ever happened in the final version of Half Life 2, and the Beta is well, a Beta.

So what do you want? That combine throw nades back?

that would be cool if MOHAA can do iy why cant HL2?

i think a combine sniper threw one of my grenades back that i chucked into a window in the final version of hl2...

Whats the question or topic? The combine threw a nade that didn't explode...I remember plenty of times the combine threw a grenade at me...

i really think they dumbed down hl2 otherwise they'd be far too hard to beat by even great players

Im not really Longing for anything, just pointing out something i saw, and what i saw is a Combine dude throw a nade(the same nade i threw at them, thats what makes it kool) back at me, althought i never did see him do it, I surely did see the grenade.

And the grenade did go off. But I do think that some have misunderstood, im not wishing for something more in this game, just pointing out something that I have seen in an early version.

There we go.....hope that assures my Non-Idiocy among the Forum Elite :D

no that the combine threw a nade he threw back at him.
He didn't actually see the combine throw the nade, it could've bounced off the wall, or maybe it was a bug.

Yeah those cylinder shaped nades make some crazy bounces sometimes...

I think that too. But I'd go absolutely ape to get killed every time in another way by amazing AI. I'd just sit there, staring in awe, feeling incredibly happy because it's such a good game. Too bad, the truth is far away :(

I remember playing HL2 and I threw a grenade. A combine whipped out his Gravity Gun and chucked it back.

It's an off-chance, but a stray shot from the Combine could alter the trajectory of the grenade. I've done such a thing with the shotgun loads of times in HL2 (there is this one really cool bit when you return to City 17 where you can pratically volley grenades back up at the combine who threw them, and they usually explode as soon as they get back to the sender)

Bottom line is, if the feature was so good, Valve would have never gotten rid of it in the first place. Trick of the mind methinks ^^

Well that OICW did look incredibly cool and practical, but they still deleted it :/

True, I really think that something as Cool as that would have stayed in the game. Its not like it would lad the game up or anything, just a simple game feature. So in all actuality, it was most likely a figment of my imagination, or at the very least a Bounce/Stray Shot as Kupoartist put it.

But hey, it was the beta, and crazy stuff happened in the Beta.

OICW would have been sweet, but instead we get guns that vavle just made up (weel, some of them at least)

The Combine don't have the gravity gun? I thought only Gordon has it, as it was developed by the rebels? :|

yeah but, just out of curiosity, i'd love to see some really exceptional AI implemented in a game such as hl2, even if I do get killed in 2 seconds. If what your saying is the case (and I agree it probably was) I think they should've at least left the originaly developed AI as a extra difficulty setting, lable it impossible or somthing. I'd just really like to see well coordinated NPC's moving smartly to pick apart you and your band of rebels.

That never happened to me before. They just ignored the grenades I throw at them. pretty stupid of them. lol

The Combine have thrown my grenades back at me before, or at least I seem to remember so. Or perhaps they just ran from it (which is probably the safer thing to do anyway).

You should have hated it enough not to bring it up.

That was my idea.

Oh brother...another post about the beta.

News Flash: the ONLY reason everything in the beta looked better is because you haven't played it, and have imagined some amazingly intricate, meticulously elaborate gameplay that somehow transcends what computer games are capable of. As for Valve, I think they know what works in their game, and sometimes that isn't 20+ weapons etc...

Here's another angle. You brought it on yourself. You weren't supposed to see the beta, as it was a WIP. It's not their fault you think their rough material is better than anything in the final game.

Learn to be happy with what you have, and not angry about what you think you don't have. I'm 100% certain the final product was far more impacting a game than any "beta" material that leaked.cjb.net members can pull out of their ass.

ahem......
not so nice of you

I have a faint memory of the Combine sometimes chucking grenades back in the game, but it could just be my imagination...

actually, what people like to call the "Beta" is actually a compiled version of the stolen source code. So the Beta is well, warez.

On topic, though - never saw them toss anything back in the game, just go "Grenade!" and scatter from it.

play the expert bots in CS:S they dont so much use tactics but they will make mince out of you and your buddies pretty quickly :)

About the sniper throwing back the grenade, if you think about it, I bet you the nade pops back out right after u tossed it in; so that means the nade just hit the back of the room and then it bounced out. If he was to pick it out and throw it out it would have taken more time.

Yeah, good idea Darkwolf. Also you could play Far Cry on hardest level, that should give u a good fight for your money. I think I played it on the next hardest level.

I am Quite aware that the "Beta" was an Illegal version of the game, and I did in Fact play it(So besides being painfully Rude, you were also Wrong JCambell), after a very grueling effort Mind You. Although in hindsight, it really wasnt worth it, there wasnt much to play, and a few tidbits were spoiled. But Anyways, I find that far too many Assume far too much about far too many People.

And People, please try and understand that Im not whining about what I wish was in Half Life 2, or anything stupid like that. I just thought it was an interesting thing that I may or may not have saw while playing and Illegal version of a great game. But apparently, my bringing up a Slightly-Out-of-Date topic in a Internet forum designed for Discussion is too much a burden for some to not respond harshly to, let alone give a serious thought to.

oh yea, and sorry JellyWorld, I must've misread it somewhere.

Although it seems otherwise, this post wasn't directed at you. I realize that you haven't made any attempt to proclaim the "glory of the beta" or "I wish: e3 2003" and apologize for not making myself clearer. To the others ( you know who you are) my point still stands.

As for your other "this-is-an-internet-forum-so-no-one-can-disagree-with- me" comment, I could care less. You have no idea (actually, scratch that, you might) how many people I've heard saying how much better the beta was because of either
a)striders blowing up a building
b)ant lions coming through a window
c)OMG 20+ weapons
d)Borealis
e)longer game, because everyone knows a longer game is always better etc...

So, again, I regret that you took it personally, but do not take back anything I said. This is an internet discussion forum, so expect people to have a different opinion. Regarding my comment about the "leaked" forum members, you know it's true. They're the most ironically condescending bunch of kiddies that I've ever seen develop an internet forum based solely on the premise that HL2 "wasn't good enough." There may be a few tolerable people, but do a search on the user 'fstick' to get a general idea of the attitude and maturity they have. "Gabe's Love Tub" indeed.

And for what you did see in the Beta, I think I may have once seen it in the real game, but I can't be sure. It definitely wasn't a bounce because I looked where I shot it before I did...I don't know.

Besides, I wasn't THAT rude:p

Indeed, on a scale of 1 to 10, the rudeness was prolly about a 3-4. There have been other people on many forums across the internet who would probably by thier posts alone, deserve a Darwin award(that is, if they ever were to face an untimely death).

I totally agree with this though(as well as pretty much yer whole post from which this quote is taken  ):

But Anyways, One more thing. Then Im done for a while:
As for your other "this-is-an-internet-forum-so-no-one-can-disagree-with- me" comment, I could care less.

The comment you refer to I believe may have been Misunderstood, I really had no intention of coming off that way, my only intention was to suggest that some people think that there time may be wasted in responding to certain posts.
