I have a question about the new AVP movie

I'm thinking of watching the movie next week but...

Do any of you know if I need to watch any of the other alien or predator movies in order to understand AVP? i've heard of the other alien and predator movies but, I don't think I've ever got a chance to see any of them. I feel dumb... I'm sorry everyone.

really watch alien, aliens, alien 3, and alien ressurection, then predator 1 and 2.
this way you will know the whole story. pluz, there is an easter egg at the end of pred 2 that ties them in with the aliens.

Bad acting, poor story, and downright cheesy nonsense towards the end. Granted there were some good scenes, but overall, a piss poor movie.

Watch Predator, Predator 2, Alien and Alien 2.. You don't need to know anything special about them to understand AVP but they're damn good movies and should show you what the real predator and alien universe concept is like.

i think its better they have the rights. the actually make works of art, and not as much toys.

Don't watch Predator 2. Only watch the end of it. The rest will make you cry. And Aliens 3 was terrible, and I've only seen bits of Resurrection, but from what I saw... ugh.

But definately see Alien, Aliens, and Predator. The three best sci-fi horror movies of all time.

I just came back from watching the movie... I think this is just a money making movie (like freddy vs jason). WHY DID THEY REDESIGN THE PREDATOR?!?! I mean his mask was awesome... why make it look like a squid thingy?

Also why do they make the predators the good guys in all of this? I think the Aliens should have been the good guys. :\

preds werent the good guys, they were simply the only option she had to stop the aliens. and they did not redesign the predator. different masks show that each predator came from a different clan.

And the xenomorphs couldn't be the good guys. Apart from mostly being dumb animals (Unless they're near the queen, who's at least as smart as a human), they have a nasty sadistic streak.

The Preds, on the other hand, are simply rather honourable aliens who simply live by a different code to us (Survival of the fittest, taken to extremes). They don't kill children, pregnant females, or people who show no inclination to fight. They also hold humans in very high regard, both as prey and as a warrior race (though it's more a case of an occasional really good warrior among the many crap ones)...

ok so basically there is this dude who has a ton of money and he finds some old pyramid buried deep under the ice, so they bore down there and they are looking around and being all nosey and they find an aztec caldenar so this mexican says, i shit you not, "oh the aztec calendar is metric so i theorize that every 10 minutes the pyramid will shift and change shape" WTF!! that makes no sense that he would come to this conclusion given only that the aztec calendar is metric, anyway then the aliens come to life and the humans find the pred guns and then the aliens and preds fight for a bit, then all the humans die except the lead character (go figure!) and then she gives the pred the gun she found and now they are best pals, he shows her that the aliens blood is like acid and burns through stuff, then he has her stick her hand through the aliens head like a shield (plot hole #2 the blood in the alien head would melt her arm off) and then they fight more things and they both get out of the pyramid and theres a bigass alien they fight and win and then the pred ship uncloaks and you see a bunch of preds there and the movie ends and it was gay as **** and stupid too

It barely helped.. other then he could see with those different heat detection and what-not.

I enjoyed the movie and everything falls into place, but you MUST pay attention! If you're smart you'll understand.

If you're into Alien and Predator, watch it. If your not, don't.
As it was stated above, its all about preference.
IMO, it wasn't too shabby movie but the way things went down in the movie could been alot better such as...

the predators that died, especially when 2 of the 3 died pretty quick one by one. But I understand also that the humans screwed up how the things were suppose to go when they took the pred's guns.

I was overall satisfied and the ending did get me wanting to see if a sequel is in the works or that if it was just a tease.

and btw, I've watched alien 3 on FX today. I thought... it was alright. I thought it kinda sucked that the heroes don't have any weapons effective enough to kill the alien. I also saw like the last 30 mins of predator. it was the part where arnold sets a trap to kill the predator, the predator reveals his horrifying face, and then arnold tries to fight it. I'm about to watch AVP tomarrow. Any more opinions?
