Should I get a PlayStation 3? I mean it has bluray and Killzone 2/Resistance look great, but is it worth it in the long run?

If you mainly want bluray, get a bluray drive for your pc. They're less than half the price of a ps3.

If you mainly want PS3 games, then get a PS3, durr.

Just for the games? Nah. PS3 has little to offer in the games department compared to the other 2, especially with some big exclusives coming over to the 360.

mgs4, RE5, god of war 3, little big planet, resistence 2, socom.....yeah your right. little to offer. i guess sticking with halo would be the better choice.

RE5 isn't a PS3 exclusive.

If you like to watch movies on your TV and if you are planning to watch movies on hi-def the PS3 is well worth it for the blu-ray player aspect. It's also good to have around for exclusives like LBP.

i dunno about here in the states but EU is getting a bundle with the new 160 gig HD and Ratchet & Clank:QoB, Last Guy, GT5: Prologue and Super Stardust HD.

I'm a PS3 owner and even I can't answer the question

I bought it as a cheap Blu Ray player

At least there's Tekken

well it's obviously opinion, so take it for what you will. i only care for RE5 and MAYBE MGS4, with RE5 already coming to 360 and MGS4 rumored (noo little big planet :(). halo is also one of the games i don't like at all. :rolling:

At least there's Tekken

also coming to 360 :p

I bought mine just for Killzone 2, and it was totally worth it*.

*Killzone 2 isn't actually out yet, the console has proven it's worth through other exclusive games.

EDIT: Plus this is just a sneaky way of making this thread again.

Yeah, it really depends on the games you like. Right now, I personally think the exclusives for Sony beat the exclusives for Microsoft, but please don't get me wrong, MS has some strong exclusives that I LOVE/MUST HAVE like Mass Effect and Fable 2, I just don't like the Gears of War or Halo series at all and that has been their bread and butter for so long and will continue to be for a long while I am sure and so it takes those off the table for me.

With the PS3 you have some of the greatest old series and some of the coolest new series coming out like Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Resistance 1 & 2, Gran Turismo, Ratchet & Clank series, God of War series, the new Team Ico game, Heavy Rain, White Knight Story, Killzone 2, inFamous (but more importantly the likelihood of the new Sly Cooper), Motorstorm series, SOCOM series, SingStar series, Yakuza 3, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, the still secret PS3-exclusive Rockstar title, not to mention the great PSN titles like The Last Guy, Ratchet & Clank: QFB, Fat Princess, Crash Commando, all of the PixelJunk games, Flower, Wipeout HD, Siren: Blood Curse, Echochrome, plus interactive art like Linger in Shadows and such.

All of this plus free online play and Playstation HOME which looks like an incredible experience that loads of third-parties are getting involved with (look at what Ubisoft is doing with the Far Cry 2 space for instance--very cool stuff), a more than decent internet browser built-in, Blu-ray, the ability to switch-out hard drives and not have to use proprietary hardware, wireless internet connectivity built-in.

In short, yes, a PS3 would make a good choice for any gamer. :)

EDIT: Everyone should have a Wii. Who else? Everyone's mom. :E

I love my PS3 - I prefer the 360 and Wii for games, but when you add the superb Blu-ray player (i'd pick it over any standalone/drive) and free online service it becomes great value for money. It'll also be home to some of the best games around.

Resistance is poo, though ;)

Resistance co-op is good fun. I played it on my flatmates PS3. None of the single-player games have tempted me to use it though.

MGS4 might be coming to 360, and that's a very love it or hate it series.

god of war 3 is legitimate, as well as Kingdom Hearts (god i'm jealous), so 2 points for you.

resistance 2. . . eh. the first one was a competant shooter at best, but im not sure how that merits being excited for a sequel.

as for killzone2. . ... to quote a song: "but killzone 1 sucked before, what made you think we wanted more?"

socom is always fun, but i never found it all that different from Military Shooter X imho.

so, if those are your reasons for buying a PS3, then yes, yes i will stick to playing halo3.

but there are some excellent, excellent PS3 games by the same token.

Uncharted
Motostorm
PixelJunk Monsters/Eden
not to mention i find the offerings and flavors of Downloadable games a bit better on the PS Store. . .

i guess what im getting at, there's some very very good games for PS3, but who knows which ones will appease you and which ones will make the slip to 360.

so just do your homework.

I love my PS3 as a bluray player and equal to the 360 but I hate the wii >_>

Just wait for the price to come down a little farther on the PS3. Then you can save some cash on the system, and all the exclusive games will be greatest hits.

I merely got my PS3 cause it was very cheap (like $350 for 80GB MGS4 bundle, extra DS3 and LBP pre-order which I will now spend on something else).

However, every game that is multi-plat I get for my 360 because it offers a better all-around package (can always play music during games if want to and such), and tends to be slightly better in terms of graphics (framerate, textures, etc).

My PS3 tends to just sit there and be a movie machine.

So unless you can get a great deal on a PS3, save your money and enjoy the great games coming out on 360 this holiday.

I don't think it's that straight forward any more. While I prefer the 360 for gaming, the PS3 exclusives are on the way. lbp, the next 'Ico' - there will be great ps3 exclusives, there's no doubt of that. As always just buy the console with the most games that appeal to you. And everyone, get a damn Wii - if you have friends they'll love it, if you don't it'll get you some :)

LMAO!!

OMFG.. I don't know why, but that made me laugh like hell. Good thing I wasn't drinking anything at the time I read this. :p I do agree though.... (Shhh! Don't tell my wife!)

Hahaha! Nice. Its not totally original though. In Hot Fuzz there is the one part where everyone is sitting down talking and they discuss how, "Everyone and their mum has got a gun in these parts," and someone asks, "Like who?" and they say, "Farmers," and then they ask, "Who else?" and they say, "...farmers' mums." Awesome.

This is much funnier if you watch it. :)

I also have the other 2 and no PS3, my friend has a PS3.. It's not worth a buy right now. Maybe later.

Noone can argue this logic unless the games themselves don't appeal to you, in which case you cannot tell someone else the 360 is a better choice. You CAN however, tell them YOU prefer the 360 because it has games YOU prefer.

The problem with getting a PS3 is that your 360 will become nearly useless

I've actually re-purchased a few titles on the PS3 just because my 360 feels so....old

Get a PS3 when they come down in price and there are more games out. With the other two consoles around, you won't be short of good games to play in the meantime, and free to do an end of generation mop-up with the PS3 for all the must haves that eventually come along. Eventually. Remember, the extra dollars you pay out on getting a PS3 now instead of two years down the line could be spent on playing games now, instead of giving yourself the ability to play games at some ill defined point in the future.
