I have been Vista-fied!

I'm most likely going to be in the same camp. Can someone tell me, having read various sources and seen various conversations on it, did microsoft change their stance on the number of hardware changes you were allowed with vista etc, and go back to the same system as XP, whereby you are allowed a certain number of hardware changes before you needed to get a new key etc.
Yeah it's a system much more similar to XP's. Plus, once ya run out just call in.

The first service pack tends to fix the critical issues that inevitably crop up in the first 6 months or so of widespread use.

My previous experience of practically every MS OS tells me to wait until at least SP1. With no compelling reason to switch to Vista before then (Halo 2? Yawn), I'll stay where I am for a while.

Well TBH, Vista has had widespread usage for months with public beta's and public RTM's and the thousands upon thousands of external testers... I wouldn't doubt it if this was the most tested Windows version before release.

Obviously there are still issues though (there always are).

They set up a SP1 website to start tracking which hot fixes will be put into the service pack.

20 more days until Vista is out for consumers (according to the Vista Countdown gadget on the sidebar)

If I can get vista through my college like I got XP (OEM Pro version for $10 from the book store) then I'll do that as soon as it is available. Otherwise I'm waiting.

I think I'll be picking up a WinXP Pro OEM and using the upgrade to Vista Business for free thing. I'm not so sure I trust this moduslink company they have mediating the process, there seems to be a ton of confusion + problems.

Just looked online, and those of you who want to upgrade from XP to Vista it costs $250 for Ultimate and $160 for Home Premium...

It's actually not that bad (still really really sucks). Since Vista is going to be considered a gaming platform from now on in the vein of Xbox360, PS3, and Wii just imagine that the $250 is going towards that system if you get Ultimate :)

Also, I gotta say now that if you guys don't have good up to date hardware, don't bother upgrading to Vista yet... Wait until you can get a DX10 and other fancy stuff and then upgrade in a year or two... There will also be a Service Pack or two out as well for those of you worried about that.

I'm getting a new PC this week-ish. I was planning on getting high end stuff, but running a midrange 7600 or 7900 and holding off the DX10 cards until Crysis, UT2007 etc...
