...who's still around, that kind of thing. VirusType2, Krynn72, Cpt.Stern. Are all you guys still around? Also, I've noticed alot of changes to the forum itself. Regrettably many of these changes aren't 56k friendly. Is there a way to change back to the more basic functions? There's no cable or DSL support in my area on account of our greedy telecom providers claiming there's no profit to made in rural communities. I'm getting a 3G wireless broadband adapter soon though. (Satellite broadband sucks)

I've been around since 07' so ignore the post count and join date. Anyways, it's good to be back even though nobody probably remembers me.

I'm still here so everything should be cool.

Cpt. Stern went off and joined the military.

I'm joking he'd never leave this forum

I came back. But you wouldn't know me because I left before you joined!

CCCCCCCCCChhhhhhhrrrissssssssssss_D has now hijacked the thread.

love to you too though, good doctor

Stern will never leave. This forum will be nothing but Stern arguing with imaginary people in the future, that is if the old c*nt doesn't die of a heart attack or something.

Believe it or not, access to DSL or cable broadband is limited to people living in metropolitan areas. (in the U.S. anyways, don't know about other countries) I've been too poor to afford wireless until just recently. which is way overpriced, but it's the only option for rural folk, and like I said, it's 3G, not satellite. Hughes Net is a goddamn ripoff.

@Willy:I remember you, crazy ass banana bastard!

@everyone else: I remember Virus leaving now that I think about it. His last words basically was that he was tired of his bother excelling at life while he remained a loser posting on internet forums all day . Poor Virus, Know how he feels! :p Wonder what became of him?

Oh, should've know Stern was still here!

Can't even get a 3G/4G mobile broadband card from a cellular provider over there? That's usually the best bet for those sorts of areas.

Has the forum really gotten so dial-up unfriendly? I got mobile broadband a while ago (after far far too long) so I don't have to deal with that shit, but even so, the avatars have gotten a little bigger and the banner is bigger but we still don't allow image sigs or post macros in every thread or anything. Admittedly no one bothers with "52kbps warning!" when posting images in threads anymore and youtube embedding happens but surely we're one of the better forums out there for slow connections.

Also if the youtube embedding is giving you trouble you could try installing adblock plus and telling it to block elements from Youtube.

The forum is a flaccid penis still. Nothing new.

This is not completely true. It depends where you live (for cable or DSL.) Broadband itself is available everywhere in the US via sattelite connection ISPs, they just aren't too great for gaming due to high ping but they're fine for browsing, content, work related internet usage, research, video/audio media, etc.

As a whole the internet itself is even unfriendly for older PC's (not just connection), and I'm talking sysytems like from 2008, etc. Never before have I seen news and content websites cram SO MUCH CRAP onto their pages.

It's completely true. ISPs in capitalist nations like America are only concerned about profit and DSLAMS and repeaters have overhead plus maintenance costs, so they are not willing to invest in sparsely populated areas if they are just going to break even or lose money. We could be more like some nations where the internet(s) are publicly funded, but more state control could threaten net neutrality so I'd rather just wait until I can move to where it's available tbh. After all, I've gotta have my porn!

As for my PC, it's almost a completely new build apart from the case and peripherals with a nice, new 9800GTX graphics card, MB, and quad-core processor, but It's kind of like trying to use a hammer to kill a fly without a decent internet connection, so I'm going to change that soon.

BTW, satellite sucks no matter what you use it for. It wouldn't be so bad if the prices are competitive with DSL and cable, but I'm not paying $300 for hardware costs, $60 a month for less-than-stellar speeds, poor signal reception due to weather, and bandwidth restrictions. F**k that.

@BHC: I'm planning on getting a 3G wireless adapter from Sprint.

@riomhaire: I was thinking about finding an updated version of the Firefox app No-script which disables certain javascript code that allows flash media. Haven't bothered to look for an update since the days of FF 2.0.

You remind me of a saner Ron Paul.

this forum gives me a weird feeling...like i remember all of you, i remember posting here, i remember loving this place...but i can't "feel" that memory.

It's like i'm remembering events of somebody else's life...and im not even high ...

I dunno I myself had sattelite broadband years ago when I lived in a rural area and my only real complaint was ~200 ping in games like CS. Maybe it just felt awesome being off of 56k finally. But this was before Netflix, Hulu, Wifi phones and other areas of our life that need broadband nonstop so it could be a totally different feel today.

There's usually some provider with speeds 1mbps or higher even in rural areas via a 3g or 4g route. Barring the total boonies out of reach of any kind of cellular tower. It's the expense that really blows, though.

BW caps out the ass and no unlimited available. :\

Thankfully, Sprint merged with Virgin mobile not long ago, so they changed from the fixed rates to unlimited for their 3G plans. I don't think there's 4G here yet. Also, they're the only cellular provider that offers wireless 3G internet around here. Boost and Verizon has some coverage, but Sprint owns all the towers around here.

The problem isn't the limited date rates compared to DSL or cable, it's the limited date rates plus paying nearly triple a month compared to DSL or cable ISPs. It's price gouging and it's bullshit.

That's true I didn't think about cost since I was still livin off of mommas tit at that age haha
